First On Race Day
« on: July 24, 2011, 05:19:48 PM »

didn't get to see it, although it'll be broadcast next week......but at the new jersey motorsports park thunderbolt raceway this weekend, ford has taken their 4th victory in the continental tire challenge.
this leaves us with bmw=3 wins, ford=4 wins, and chevy=2 wins. chevy hadn't won any of this series, till a couple of weeks ago, when an end of race full course caution kept the #61 boss302 from taking the leab back again.
the following weekend, the competitive ford teams were removed from contention due to wrecks(and an extended pit stop, putting one of them 15 laps down). this left only the bmw's to handle the chevys.....which they were unable to do.
the funny thing is that the winning teams crewchief was saying "see? it wasn't a fluke that we won last week!". but it was. sort of. the winning ford this weekend, started in 3rd, and took the lead on lap 15,,,,,,and held it for the rest of the race.

so....we had a ford on the pole, and a ford winning the race(2 different ones BTW) finish was ford/bmw/ford/bmw, till 8th where the only chevy in the top ten resided.  in fact, it was the only one in the top twenty.
it was hot though. in cherry hill, where i work, about 45 miles from the track, it was about 100F outside......115F insdie the shop......i'd imagine that the tract temps were in the 130F to 150F range, so possibly the chevys couldn't take the heat. in more ways than one.  :noid :neener:

is this an ameteur league?

i could probably drop a good 7K on my Mustang and make her race worthy.

do the engines need to be naturally-aspirated?

this is the equivalent of what used to be the "trans am" series back in the 60's. it is by no means amateur.

i thought i saw a challenger running a few weeks ago, but i'm not sure. the challenger is really too big, and heavy....it'd have a lot of trouble on most of these tracks.........

yea, we already knew that. the competitave mustangs(jack roush jr, and multi-matic)were both eliminated. roushes car took a hit to the rear, causing a broken swaybar, which shredded the tire.
the multi-matic car was running the lead down, when he was taken out by another car, thus sealing the victory for the camaro. there was nothing capable of touching it besides those two stangs.

yep they do.

the big question, is can they hold that lead from ford for the last race? keeping chevy out of the spot is easy.....ford though.....whelp...for all of the blathering everyone does about how much better IRS is than a live axle.......well.....they're all afraid of the mustangs.  :aok

Corvette Racing won the GT class today at the Grand Prix of Mosport,
beating Ferrari, Porsche and BMW to score its ninth win on the legendary Canadian road course. Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen scored the team's first American Le Mans Series victory of the season with a 4.4 sec. margin of victory. Teammates Tommy Milner and Olivier Beretta finished 6th in the sister Corvette C6.R. Congratulations to Corvette Racing!
