Remove m93 ammo from m4 76
« on: July 26, 2011, 10:37:32 AM »
Remove m93 ammo from m4 76. We have a tank full these deadly at rounds when in real life they only carried 1 or 2 of theses because unavailability of tungsten and tank destroyers units were issued most of the ones around. Like firefly and m10.

You really need to step back and take a breath. Then do some detailed research, provide sources for your claims (otherwise they are just that) and then present your case with a sound explanation.

Otherwise the chance is high you will just generate facepalm posts...

And that's the main problem. :)

You also mix up some info, and take some assumptions as facts and draw conclusions before the research has even finished. Patience, own careful work and diligence are the keys.  :old:

Penetration for the M4(76) is representative of APCBC (Armor Piercing Capped, Balistic Cap) amunition.

Type       Name      weight(kg)     Muzzle        Angle      91m    457m   914m   1,371m   1,828 m
                                           Velocity(m/s)
  AP      M79 Shot     6.80            792             30°                 109      92        76         64

APCBC      M62         7.00            792             30°                  93       88        82         75

APCR        M93         4.26           1,036            30°                 157     135       116        98

Quick chart I got off the internet, not saying its accurate, but it falls inline with what we have in the game.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

Your are referring to the 76mm T4 HVAP (High Velocity AP) round issued in 1944 which is not modelled at all in Aces High. The AH Sherman 76mm has "standard" APCBC as stated above.

Also the Firefly never used it (T4 HVAP ammo). It was issued APDS (tungsten AP Discarding Sabot) for the 17 pounder gun (also a 76mm gun) as it was not a US Army AFV but British. Not the same gun. APDS is also not modelled in Aces High. The Firely uses "standard" 17 pounder APCBC as well.

So there is nothing to remove. Unless you just want the Shermans to have just HE and smoke.

Sure about that? Take a look at out in game penetration tables, and the ease at which our M4(76) kills the Panther with one shot at up to 2k where RL tests came to the result "penetration not possible"

Concur with Squire and Tank-Ace, it is the M62 that is modeled in the game.  Check the stats in the hangar.  Weight, MV, and penetration.

You like charts and graphs Lusche, here you go. :)  At 2000 yards, it's still going 2000 feet per second and can penetrate almost 3" at 30 degrees obliquity.

Went offline and drove my P-39 to 800 yards away from front of Tiger I (110mm approx hull front at 10 deg slope). Marked the spot (no, not that way geez  ;)). Exited...drove out a M4 (76) and parked. From 800 yards the data I have on the APCBC is @ 120mm of penetration. It took between 6-10 hits to the front to kill it. HVAP is @ 185mm of penetration and would blow it to kingdom come at 800 yards.

Data I have on the two shells in yards at 0 degree rha plate. To kill a Panther at 2000 yards? well assuming you can get a hit at all...its possible, I mean tanks are not "gun proof" as plunging fire and hits to side and top plates do happen but I would need to see a consistant pattern. Even stationary its not easy scoring hits at beyond 1200 yards now that you can't do the 10X zoom thing you could in previous versions of AH.

Data:

APCBC:                          HVAP:
100 yards- 142mm           239mm
500 yards- 131mm           209mm
1000 yards- 119mm         176mm
2000 yards- 102mm         125mm
