Went shooting today
« on: July 28, 2011, 06:58:30 PM »
So, I love to shoot my .22 but I'm having trouble finding any decent ammo for it

Heres my group with some plinking remington subsonic ammo

I think I could get it much better with the use of better ammo

I've never had any trouble with Remington ammo.

I've never tried Winchester ammo for a .22, but I always associate Winchester with the bigger caliber rifles. I tend to stay away from it for smaller barrels, then.

What I was shooting today is better than what I was shooting Tuesday. Maybe its just the idiot behidn the trigger. The target on the left is at 50 yards, and the big holes are with some reloaded 30/06 that I'm trying. The right is at 100 and it isnt any good

I shoot CCI Mini Mags with my Sig Sauer Mosquito.  They're a little more expensive, about $7 per 100rnd box, but they are better then any of the cheap stuff in my opinion.  If you want cheaper, around $20 per 500rnd, then I would suggest the Blazer ammo.  I've had pretty good luck with it too.

I've never liked Remington 22LR, it seems to be a lot "dirtier" then other brands.  Just my opinion.

.22's are always fun to shoot. Were you using a scope or open sights? I used to have a scope for mine, but I took it off when I went to shoot some guns the other day and I really like open sights for my .22 rifle. I also fired my 7.7mm Japanese rifle for the first time too. I was able to get all the rounds on target and that rifle was just way too fun to shoot. My friend also brought up an Italian rifle that fires 7.62 rounds. It has a short barrel and that thing was LOUD!

I'd have somebody else shoot the rifle, to see if the gun is shooting to the right or maybe you are pulling it to the right yourself.  If it is you pulling, then you might want to work on your trigger control to improve your shooting.

I have a surplus Russian Nagant that shoots 7.62x54.  You know it when it fires!   Thing is loud and kicks like a mule!   :D

Nah its not the trigger I've already got it nice and light. Not much pull either, so I know right where it goes bang. (or clink in the .22s case) It shoots in different places with different ammo, and it could have been the wind too.

In that case, try the CCI Mini Mags.

I love Nagants, I always try to find the 147 grain ammo if I can, the 174 stuff hurts. I brought my M39 to the range and let my friend shoot it. He couldnt hit the target, so it must have been the gun   so I loaded up 5 rounds and took aim at a sporting clay on the 200 yard birm, and busted it the second shot.

Either way, you've already mastered one shooting skill, blaming everything but the shooter.  :D  I've seen many a skilled excuse makers at the range.   :neener:

Second on the CCI mini mags.  Your groups are pretty tight, adjust the sights a little bit.  What gun are you shooting these with?
LOOK EVERYBODY!  I GOT MY NAME IN LIGHTS!

Folks, play nice.
