As I said, show me one example where these out of proportion measures, stopped anyone from doing anything. It is a minimal risk you take in order to have a normal life.
Strip searching everyone before leaving home and having them provide with a traveling plan with destinations, purpose, and arrival time would bring crime down to nothing. But, I am willing to take the risk and not have those measures in place. You?
I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Sadly in our current climate the powers that be have to over do it. If not, the lawsuits come out in droves.
Best example I can use is Social Services, having worked in it for so many years. The services get cut, the rules backed off, not as many workers. All is well, then BAM! Some kid gets horrifically abused or killed and folks go crazy wondering why no one was paying attention. The system then reacts, starts spending more money, being more watchful and then it becomes too much cost, invasion of privacy, etc. and the cycle repeats itself.
We've been in that bad guys around every corner mode now since 9/11 and the paranoia runs deep, which means we over react to everything.
