"Stat queens, Score Ho's"
« on: August 08, 2011, 08:10:20 PM »
I borrowed this from another thread so as not to hijack it:

sorry but score means squat :aok

I look at scores and am able to glean and deduce lots from the practice.....

I like to furball and kill planes in this game and preferably survive each encounter (land the kills).......

I think the rankings are fairly easy to manipulate and not entirely reflective of respective skill levels but do show individuals and squads motivations and flying styles.....

Does this mean I'm a score ho?

One thing I have observed is that I cant imagine how some get any enjoyment flying as cautiously as they would  have to fly to keep up their precious k/d ratio....  but I realize that as my dearly departed Grandpa used to say... "there's enough different ways, for everybody to have one"

I do like for the most part the formula for fighter rankings but I would like to see one little tweak...  factor in somehow a reward for flying high ENY planes vs low ENY planes.

To quote O'Reilly again: "Where am I going wrong on this?"

what if the high eny plane just vulched and fought with huge numbers on his side?....there is always gonna be a way to manipulate scores~rank....

The only scoring system I go by is whether I'm having fun or not :)

That being said if statistics matter to you, there is nothing wrong with that either.

Out of the 5 categories, I think fighter score is probably the only one that holds truth.  If you are a score potato, odds are you aren't just doing vulch missions in a fighter.

Well I had thought about adding that idea to my wish tweak, but really dont know how numbers could be factored in, and even that wouldn't be truly reflective of the numbers of any given furball.

Agreed

My idea of fun is living vicariously thru my pixelated pilot and attempting to do as I would were I really in a life and death situation and thats why I get all the more satisfaction when emerging from those encounters that I really shouldn't have.

I do not see how some pilots can find any enjoyment in their timidness, trying to stay alive at all costs.

I also do not see how some pilots can find any enjoyment in their over aggressiveness, always dying, always spending half their time taking off flying to fights.

It does not matter what I think though, all I can control is how I have fun.

in some cases the "trying to stay alive" is a role play thing, and believe me, it makes the game very interesting too.

It can be fun at times.  I have to mix it up though otherwise I'll get bored.

I play the game as many different ways as I can manage. One day you'll see me flying at 20k in a p51, the next I may be bombing something in B17s, quite often you will find me at low alt in a big fat mossie with at least one engine on fire. I see it as utterly stupid to put myself in a box that limits my playing fun.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

Aces High is like golf; you can only cheat/lie to yourself, and regardless, whatever score you attain doesn't change anything as the game continues.
