Back in the day... When we would defuel one of our Navy recips (C-1A, C-131 or C-118), the fuel would be drained into a fuel bowser and was later filtered, and tested. It was then pumped into the fuel truck. If defueled for contamination, even excessive water in the tank, that fuel was used for other purposes, including replacing MOGAS in vehicles and equipment. They were running lawn mowers on the 115/145.. I would help myself to a few gallons of 115/145 AVGAS which we ran in our crotch rockets. My RD400 ran well on the 115/145, being a relatively high compression 2 stroke (72 hp out of 410cc). I had to avoid idling for more than a few seconds, or the plugs would load up. If I switched to hotter plugs, the electrodes would partially melt during hard use.
