Again and again; it comes back to haunt us. Who are we; all of us who fly this sim? Are we all arrogant asses??
a passage from shaw's tome..
"Fighter pilots don't think of not comming back. They are invincible, or think they are, and they have to be that way. Down in our hearts we may figure that some accident will get us some day, when we are old and gray, when our beards get in the way of the controls, or we get to where we don't see well or react fast - but we know that no enemy fighter is good enough to shoot us down. If that happens it's just an accident."
"These thoughts are the "chips' we carry on our shoulders, and they have to be there - arrogant, egotistical chips mellowed by flying technique and experience and fortified by the motto, "ATTACK!" Never be on the defensive. Shoot the enemy down before he can shoot you down. You are better than he is, but don't give him a chance. He may get in a lucky shot but you are invincible. Move toward any dot in the sky that remotley resembles an airplane. Move to attack, with switches on and the sight ready. If it's not a ship, or it's a friendly one you'll be ready anyway, and your arrogant luck will last longer."
Col Robert Scott Jr USAAF. 10 kills WWII
Hunh. Yup, I fit that bill. I'm an arrogant ass.

Another perspective, from the movie Independance Day. My respect for Will Smiths acting jumped up 10 notches when he demonstrated the Fighter Pilot Personna perfectly during that ridiculous 'dogfight' (don't TELL me you shot that red toejam at ME!)and in particular after forcing the ailen fighter to auger on the top of the mesa. Cursing; swearing; jumping with rage he pursued that guy to a punch in the chops... the fight NEVER ends for a fighter pilot. Never. The only thing I liked about that movie...
WELCOME TO EARTH!

Now; how do we contain all this rage and arrogance??
Well; you can get a cat. <PUNT!>
Or; you can recognise the rage and arrogance for the tool that it is.. without it; you would lack the necessary 'fire' inside it takes to persevere in a fight. Learn to control it. Use it to drive yourself to victory. And when you WIN or LOSE, remember to turn it off. (along with that damn recorder)
And if the rage is still there after the parts settle to earth; you can punt the cat; or head for the other tool provided graciously by the developer. Take the fight to the P&D arena.
PLEASE KEEP THE MORONIC DEGRADING SLURS AND INSULTS OUTTA THE TEXTBOX! I SUBMIT THAT IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO ANSWER ANY SLUR OR INSULT WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN A CHALLENGE TO FIGHT 'OUTSIDE'. (if you feel so inclined) EITHER IGNORE THEM OR TELL EM TO PUT UP; OR SHUT UP; BUT DO NOT RETURN THE DAMN INSULTS.
<PUNT!>
Thanks for your attention to this small matter.
