I'm 6'0" and 175lbs made of pure muscle, but  I would look like a weed compared to either of the movie conans.

For the sake of the movie, they needed a bigger guy than the original concept, if for nothing else than to draw in the female viewers.

I saw ya in that vid of yours, I didn't see much muscle...just some skinny guy shooting arrows :headscratch:

 :D

and I completely disagree Conan was likened to a panther, Momoa looks far better then arnie as Conan :aok

Exactly, so the idea that a 6'0" guy weighing 180lbs could pass as a movie conan is unfeasable. Btw I have real hard, flat muscle, not gym muscle, you don't want to get hit by me :D

here is an athlete who is 6' and 180lbs.

again, not that big looking, so 6' 180 is never goign to pass as a movie conan. Ya get what im saying?

The whole point I'm trying to get across to you is that while the original Conan concept of 6' 180 would be accurate in that he would be agile, fast, and powerful, today's image obcessed audiances need someone much bigger and much less realistic to make them believe in a film version of Conan. Which in some ways is quite sad.

I dunno. I will give it a chance, but it is hard to beat Ahnuld as Conan.  He was big, ugly, sounded dumb, and was one tough MF.  This guys seems a bit too small (though buff, no doubt.  He still doesnt fit the "brawny" type, imo), and too flashy.  I will probably go see it just because.

I just hope the movie "Flash Gordon" is remade.  They should being back Brian Blessed as Vultan once again regardless of his age, no one can replace him   :D    SqUUAAAdrruuunhn FooooohhhhTAAY!!!!....... ..... ....  DIIIIIIVE!   **key the music** :aok

The Conan of Robert E. Howard's imagination was NOTHING like the Governator's Conan.

Two of my faves were "Beyond the Black River" and "A witch shall be born". But the truth is there were so many great Conan stories its hard to pick a fave, and not all writen by REH either. I used to have them all, as well as the comics. but now? I only have a few tattered old paperbacks  :frown:

Guess I will wait til it shown on TV.

What Hollywood should do is The Horse Clans written by Robert Adams.

Looking at the artwork on the book covers the dude they generally put there, assuming 6' tall looks to be 220/240ish and ripped depending on the artist.

The image I always had in my head was of a guy that's 6' and change, ~200 lbs well muscled, but 'working' muscle, not defined like a bodybuilder, with exceptional body grace and speed.  *shrug*

sure Wiley, I replied in reference to Ink's post saying the original Conan was 6' 180 if you read back a page or so.

that was at the age of 14-15.... :aok

in the new movie they mention him being a part of a hoard of cimmerians going over the walls of vanarium (sp?)   that was from Howard himself.

I understand what you are saying, but the fact remains Conan was not a hulking dumb barbarian, Arnie made him look especially in the second move.

they also mention the tower of the elephant which I think is cool, that shoulda been the movie they made.

I chuckled at the "not wanting to be hit by ya" comment...

all of Howard's were great, none of the other author's came close to him, but a few did a good job, Decamp, Jordan, and carpenter, were good, the rest kinda sucked.

Red Nails is my favorite, Loved beyond the black river, hell ALL of Howard's works are insane, Conan's just my favorite
