cookies

ok.....i run superantispyware, malewarebytes, and spybot search and destroy.

 i updated, and scanned last night with SAS. it found 115 cookies. i have the scan running right now, and it's found 105 so far.

 i'm concerning myself with this, as i found a couple of trojans last week with SAS. they've not come back up, but what's the deal with the cookies? i mean coming back so fast?

also, some of them seem to be dot txt files, and most are dot sqlite files.....those have a series of numbers and letters in the addy of them.


 any ideas you computer gurus out there?

my favorite place to go to get malware help is MajorGeeks.com.  Most likley its nothing but tracking cookies.  They just watch what you look at to make your searches more relevant and or what advertisments to put on your pages based on what you've been looking at.  Just check the box that say's clear history and cookies upon exiting your web browser.  This clears the history and cookies from your current browsing session.  The only down side it that the items and or pages you have clicked on won't show up as have being look at previously.  Yourfavorites that you have already saved will be fine.

aren't cookies a trail of past websites you've visited so that the computer know where its going so that you get there faster, instead of having to re-download the page?

when you run virus scan... check where the cookies are from... if from unknown sites that you've never been too then most prob you got a virus problem... try posting in the help section... skuzzmeister could help you...is you virus scan updated? if not download AVG.. tis free... but make sure you ONLY have 1 antivirus on your comp...

Cookies are created by the web browser, they're just little saved bits of data.  Save your password in your browser for this BBS and it 's probably creating a cookie to store that info in.  Whether it's benign or malicious sort of depends on what websites you frequent.

some game cookies will be reported as malwear because of how the coding is written, MSN game zone gave me fits even after clicking trusted site when I ran a scan the report said these are malwear. As stated above you connot get any virsus unless you download something pictures are a big virsus carrier now, links can be coded to download without you knowing, but cookies are not in and of themselfs bad every where you surf you get them they are your History.

In your browsers options menu make sure "Accept third-party cookies" is not checked.

However you can get a trojan by clicking a malicious link in an email or website. Those are generally dealt with if you have permissions set to notify before installing software on your machine.

I have my system set to prompt me on cookies and java x script acceptance. I routinely refuse both and block cookies from almost every site. I will only accept a cookie from a site that I absolutely have to and or trust (like my bank for internet banking) or HT. Doing this has kept my system clean for quite a while. I also scan almost daily.

Doing this has been very enlightening. I find that there are literally thousands of cookies that really have nothing to do with the main web site but have a lot to do with advertising (like double click) and setting you up for tons of spam. It's my system and I say what goes on it, not some spam wizard or advertising hemorrhoid. I don't want my browsing tracked so they can send thoughtful little bits of advertising to me or recommend sites where there are trojans / viri on the opening page.
