Am I wasting my time?
« on: August 25, 2011, 09:34:05 AM »
I read about a project to make a motion sim pit for a flight sim, the problem is that the designer didn't specify which program he was using.

I would like to test this to see if it would work for AH but I fear I may be wasting my time.  I need to know if I can extract data from an RS232 por on the computer running AH with the computer that will be running the sim pit.

that's a lot of effort you're talking about. you wouldn't be extracting data from the serial port. in very simplistic terms, you would be porting data from ah to the local serial port and then sending it to the other computer via a null modem cable.

:headscratch: wouldn't using a programmable controller board and eeproms connected to servo motors be easier?

It would but I wanted to make sure it was going to work first so I was going to make it the same way it was described, then go from there.

All i can say is good luck and if you want to do it DO IT. Its all trial and error bud.  :)

And who knows if it works and with hitechs blessing that kind of sim pit would make you a pretty penny at air shows :)  :salute

Happy Projecting :)

Seems like it would be easier to read the joystick/pedal inputs to control the motion of the sim-pit.  You could probably just y-cord them somehow or find a way to feed them back out of your computer.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

I have a simple one now that does just that the problem is that when the plane in the game rolls around from the propellor torque, the pit doesn't move with it.  I treid fixing this by having the pit "litteraly" get feedback from the joystick but that caused even more problems because the sim pit centers when the joystick does.

I can post a link to the site where I got all of my information but it will take me a little while.

Yea that's the site, just saved me about an hour of digging.  I have seen his videos and was impressed that the motors he use had that much torque.  I did change the design of a few of the elements of his sim pit to make them better, although I'm not sure if it will work.
