Salute to Pembquist: Selfless Helping of Others Isn't Dead
« on: August 28, 2011, 08:25:23 PM »
I had taken a full fuel load on B24J's for very, very, very long sorties and yes, sometimes only landed with ahandfull of minutes of fuel to spare, I take off and grab to 21K for a long run.  I plan to bomb 5 different air bases in rook land near 84.  No escorts.  SOme of these flights run 2 hours and even longer.

Not long after 84 a P51D shows up.  He nibles once or twice and then shadows me until a 190D gets close.  The 190D gets almost to 800 to me and I open up and saw his left wing off.  Two more bases later I am on my way home to bish land and note I am being myself shadowed by a Mossie and much further back, a 110.  The Mossie plays around with me for 100 miles, presumably to bleed me dry of ammo for the 110.  By this time I am at 30K and doing my best to maintain speed.

Long story short, I called out for help and by this time was 34K, who is going to help me?  I am also bingo ammo after 4 seperate bogies attacking me.  Pembquist ups and comes to my aide.  Nothing is in it for him.  He does not no me from Adam.  He may get one kill.  He may get nothing. After all, I am at an altitude that it's hard to come aide someone.  Much less someone you do not know.  He comes up and challenges the 110 and finally drops him, over 200 miles from where I first encountered him at 84.

Had it not been for the selfless helping of pembquist, I would not have landed at all.  As a result of his help, I landed the best B24J sortie I have ever flown and for just under 12 perkies and 2 kills.  Without his help I would have been easy fodder for the 110 eventually.

With all the ire and screaming on 200, anger on channel from others, or people who lose it on range much less the forums it it fantastic that such a thing  as his act of selflessness exists.  I know it has been years since I saw it last.

Moral of the story  There are still great people like pembquist out there and they deserve  something more than a salute and wtg.  Why?  It's become very rare in the game to me to wittness such a thing.

Well done sir, and may it begin a trend. Thank you mr pembquist!  I wish there were more players like you.  I know I need to be one.

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Just wanted to say I didn't challenge the 110, he wasn't checking 6 and didn't see me.  I think he bailed or ditched or broke the rest of his wing off by himself as I didn't follow him down to see. I'm just glad I could hit something. :salute

Excellent !

I LOVE buff hunting!  I LOVE escorting buffs almost as much, the high altitude guys (over 20k).  I have mentioned this before, but still, I get no requests for escorts.  Just PM me, anytime.  1 hour flights, no problem.  2 hour flights, no problem.

Lately, I've been finding "MobyDick" at alt in buffs lately and have had some excellent engagements with him.  Yesterday I pm'd him, threw him a salute after I shot down 2 of his 3 and told him happy landings I'm off, and then I said "I hate finding you at high alt".  He has pretty decent gunnery and doesn't give out easy kills.  He Pm'd me back with "You're the resaon I have to fly so high".  I'm hoping he switches sides sometime so I can escort him, I figure I owe him a few.

hes a good buff pilot. i flew a mission with him a while back. we had been engaged by 5 fighters and he downed 3 of them from 1k. i was standing there with my mouth a gate staring in amazment.
