The Mach 1 Mustang was stock .. wasn't even in my bracket (he was quite a bit slower)

That was a Maverick (the car with the hood scoop) ..(remember those?) in the background ..guy had put a boss 302 in it and it really sounded *awesome* (cam, headers, gears, slicks when he raced, the works) .. he was quite a bit faster than my Dodge :)

Coupla years later I showed him the Duster was quite a bit faster than his Maverick :)

The bottom pix (against the 6-cyl Valiant) was bracket finals that day .. guy with the slant six had 6:14 gears in the back and alla go fast goodies with 9" slicks and the car was gutted ..sounded like a real angry buzz saw ..launched amazingly fast, if you blinked you'd miss it .. that pix was snapped as I launched the Dodge ..the Valiant had the head start (it was bracket racin) .. ol' Dodge was about half a second faster down the 1/8th ..but nothin stayed with that Valiant for the first 60 ft :)

believe it or not, i do remember the mavericks. in fact, i owned a 74 with a 250 strait six, 1 barrel carb., that ran 14's.  :devil

i thought the one in the pic may have been a grabber, as i've seen a few around here in nj. there was a guy at atco, many moons ago, with a 289 in his maverick........all the goodies, and that thing ran 9's.....but it looked scary, 'specially with that engine screaming up at the fast end. always was waiting for pieces of engine to launch for orbit.  :devil

You bought *that* on a payment plan?  I'm not bagging on your choice of vehicles since cost is a big consideration when buying a new car, but financing that particular car...  How much did you spend*cough*waste*cough* on interest payments, compared to the actual cost of the car?  Seriously, I've seen those sell for like $500-$800 and financing one at that price nearly doubles the actual cost of the car...
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Not sure what the interest is...  I don't have real good credit so I had to go through one of those car lots that guarantees financing.  It was just a three year loan...

He can't!  Once the rust is washed off the car might fall apart!   :lol

I can't knock it though.. I've owned 5 Escorts in my life.  My latest one is a '95 I got five years ago.  I paid $200 for it and the only major work that was needed was a cylinder head.  The pin that held the roller in place for the lifter had backed out from BOTH lifters for #1 cylinder and broke the head all the way to the oil ports.  I got a new (reman) head with a cam, lifters, gaskets, and bolts from ebay for $300.  She's been running strong for over 60,000 miles now.  Traded her with my dad for his old Festiva which got 44MPG on the last tank!

Actually the heck with how the car looks, if it's only what he could afford, and the thing didn't take a crap for the last 2.5 years : Mission Accomplished. Got transportation and re-established some of his credit.

Looks more like a joystick. You grab hold and pull it out. It has a cord on it so you can drive the toy around remotely.

It's no Johnny Speed but it'll do in a pinch.
