He was probably dragging their trash through their yard.

Really????

13 rounds. One well placed pellet would do the trick, if your a dee da dee and don't know how to make a dog leave your yard without a firearm.

He was probably dragging their trash through their yard.  A nuisance animal is a nuisanse animal.  Be it a squirrel, cat, chipmunk or dog, if it is in my yard it will be dealt with.  People need to learn to keep their animals in their yard.

Let me get this straight.  You're telling me you can't run a dog out of your yard WITHOUT a firearm?

If the above statement is true you need to turn your man card in.

I'm not going to take my chances with a possibly rabid dog.  People need to learn how to keep their animals in their yard.  My neighbors have two pit bulls that they can't seem to keep on a chain.  The last time they were in my yard, they were warned, through animal control, that I have a shot gun and am not afraid to use it.  I have young children and I will not be threatened by a stray animal and I'm tired of picking up trash.

The funny thing is..  They suddenly figured out how to work a dog chain.

There is a major difference between potentially aggressive animals and the type I described in my initial post.  Had either of the dogs I was referring to acted in an aggressive manner I could have corralled it with a blanket and a little help from Squid without hurting myself or anybody else.  Well the dog might have hurt itself.  It's not hard honestly but I don't expect everybody in the world to know how to do it or attempt to learn on the fly.

Yes, to protect your children or yourself, fire away.  It sucks but you have to do what you have to do.  Frankly I think the neighbor deserves the buckshot more than the dog but the dog is probably beyond redemption at this point.

I hope you're trolling.

You're damned right I would.  And they know it too.  Funny how since this little revelation has been brought to their attention that they can suddenly keep their dog in their yard.

-1 for people who let their dogs run lose
-1 for people who keep their dogs confined to 10 feet of chain at all times.

people who let their dogs run wild is pretty lame, but also some owners keep animals prisoner more than anything else. I cannot help but feel that the owners who make animals live in relatively small spaces forever are worse than those who abandon animals IMO.

Sorry but anyone who drops animals off in remote places NEEDS to have the same thing done to them. Let's see them survive fending for themself.

this sounds like an urban myth to me - afaik the police dont even have an animal protection unit, and http://www.google.com/search?q=us+citizen+fined+for+running+over+birds+nest+in+uk yields nothing :headscratch:

did you by any chance hear this from that tv political pundit? you know, the guy that cries alot?

We got it during the in-processing briefing from an ex-cop who was tasked with briefing Americans on weird UK laws that could bite us in the butt.  The Brits have some very very strong animal and wildlife protection laws, and messing with a bird nest is a big deal, violating multiple rules.  Their version of our SPCA actually has legal authority to levy fines and take people to court.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

I have small kids, and here in TX there have been a number of cases of loose dogs mauling or killing kids, plus I'm in an area with lots of wildlife so rabies and other diseases are a big possibility.  So if a dog that could hurt or kill my kids gets into my yard, yea I might shoot the thing especially if it was a repeat occurrence or the neighbor was a jerk about it.

I do have neighbors with dogs that are ok with kids and they are nice neighbors, so I wouldn't shoot their dogs.  But if any sort of pit or pit crossbreed shows up, I may snipe it from the other side of the fence or from the second floor.  I refuse to risk ANY harm to myself or my family from any animal that isn't my voluntary responsibility.

This is Bob the dog. I'm flying him to Amarillo on Friday for a Paws N Pilots flight. I'm taking care of him for a few days because the shelter wanted him out, and the lady who adopted him (sight unseen) lives in Idaho. If she hadnt adopted him they would have killed him. He's a really sweet dog, and I dont see how anyone could have been mean to him, but it gets worse.

(Image removed from quote.)

Someone thought it would be fun to shoot him with a pellet gun - The vet counted 13 pellets and pulled them out and cleaned them. I'd LOVE to meet the dickhead who shot him about 100 yards downrange.

I'd shoot him 13 times, but not with a pellet gun.

sad what happened to the dog, has no excuse.  but all that money spent flying him around would have taken care of a lot more dogs.

It's a volunteer thing, the pilots volunteer their services and plane. No money is being spent (besides the pilots buying gas)

So... Do you think all of the added stress of flying the dog around helped in his healing?
