Sorry that I am fanning the flames a bit on this thread. Mostly, we should be talking about gameplay options. Ack-Ack, has pointed out, and I also read in a thread that the "war" was HTC's incentive to produce air combat. Giving the chess pieces someplace to gather.
I hear and support both arguments, when things result in extremes. Things in moderation (including the # of hours I spend playing = way, way too much) usually do not present harm. If all we are doing is air combat DA is the place (and a wonderful place it is at times, well done HTC). The same could be said for other arenas Axis versus Allies, Early / Mid War, Special Events, and now Custom Arenas.
When folks log on to interact with other online players, it is frustrating at times to be either forced to fly in the face of the oncoming horde or the reverse, have no enemy cons attacking your 3rd chess piece at all. In the latter instance, what is there left to do? The answer is what Bishops did to perfection early this morning:
Knights owned 2 isolated Bishop bases (obviously captured from sea). Since these two bases threatened to spread and shorten the defensive or offensive options for the Bishop fields, they were effectively dealt with. This amounted to large numbers of bombers, GVs and fighter / attackers overwhelming the first field. The large force was necessary to preserve the bases hangars to complete the objective which was complete ejection of Knights from their isolated position on Bishop turf. Completing the first objective was more difficult giving that base did still have the support for the second northern base. Once the last base was completely isolated, there was no need to preserve any hangars or field bunkers. A equally ( if not more impressive) force assembled and FLATTENED the targeted field, troops flew in with very little contested opposition. Textbook in my opinion.
So, don't hate the player, hate the rules. There have been many suggestions as to a different style of gameplay, until other arenas gain the population needed to present an alternative, this is what you have.
