Update...AGAIN ..LOL
« on: October 20, 2011, 11:15:08 PM »
Well I am updating my rig and I have found something I am liking.. it fits in my budget and gives me the chance to OC where as right now i cant.

Processor is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072

Mother Board is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157265
Total is 383.48

So as soon as I get then I will be selling my current MB and Processor.

I have:

CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115067

Motherboard http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=160-LF-E659-KR&family=Motherboard%20Family

So I will be thinking about a good price for the combo and we will go from there.

i dont think you will see an improvement but if you must may i recommend this mobo as the one you are thinking almost dont fit all the crap you like to put on it :).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130574.

look at your pcie slots and think about how you gonna fit what you currently have in between those spaces and I dont think you will be able to fit your sound card.  it has 3 pcie but I think you will be having a hard time fitting both your video cards and your sound card at the same time. both your vc will cover both pci and pciX1 slots as you must use both pcie top slots.  and even if you can make them fit your sound card will be so close to your vc that it will give you ņaņaras.

oh yeah and I almost forgot get the 2600k. you dont need it, but knowing you, you will want it next month :)

Make sure you get the absolute correct PSU for that motherboard.

lawndart, why don't you wait until the new intel z77 chipset hits the market or grab a mobo with the z68 chipset? both the p-67 and h-67 chipsets got recalled and the rev3 p-67/h-67 chips are nerfed compared to the originals.

I have that exact setup Lawndart and I love it. I've had zero problems and overclocking is super easy. I've over clocked my 2500k to 4.6ghz with just a few clicks in bios. The bios has a preset overclocking setting or you can manually OC. I choose the preset OC and with a coolermaster 212+ cpu cooler I think I may have just touched 70*c on one core (my core 3 seems to run 8*c hotter than the others) running prime95. I have a big video card in there and there is still plenty of room to add more.  Good luck on your choice. I'm more than happy with mine.

Edit: I should note that since the above mentioned overclocking I have been running on the factory clock speed. It is more than enough to do everything I do with this pc. If it starts feeling slow its nice to know i can add 1ghz easy. The factory clock will run at 1600mhz until you put it under a load, then will jump to 3300mhz with a 3700mhz "turbo boost", running a burn in program similar to prime95 I hit 51* on core 3 (the hot one) and about 42* on the others.

70c is kindda high (still well below max temp of 100c).  I get nervous when mine do mid 50's while in full mode lots of cons. I use Prolimatech Megahalems Rev.B CPU Cooler.  it is gigantic and need to buy separate fan, but it keeps things cool.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835242001

Lawn doesnt have a problem as he uses a very nice water cooler and his ps is sometimes borrowed by the electric company to power the city  :D.

also on the sandy bridge it is normal for one core to run hotter around 8c.  I believe it is core 0 if I remember correctly based on what I read when I bought mine.    I oc mine to 4.9 and it was stable with same temps as I have now, but I lowered it down to 4.5 as there was really no difference in playing the game.

Core 3 (well core 2 if you start counting cores as 0 being 1) is my problem child. the other 3 are with in a degree or two of each other. I edited my above post to mention I am back to stock speeds. I was just curious what temps I would reach with air cooling. 70* is hotter than i would like to run 24/7 but still within specs and really not too bad for a $25 heat sink.

the temp will vary based on your cooler.  mine does cool the cpu pretty good keeping it in low 50's during the summer.  in the winter it does mid 40's.  but my room still gets pretty hot if I keep the door closed as my vc also puts out a lot of heat.  I really recommend my cooler, but most people would probably opt of water cooling since it costs just as much.

btw that cooler was suggested by TD, money well spent, but again it's personal preference.

Pardon the intrusion, but what is the difference between the i5 and i7? Additionally what should I be looking for in a motherboard these days?

Then how do I match up the PSU to the mb/vc/cpu?

I saw that Newegg.com still sells the PC power and cooling units. Not sure if there's been a change or not.

Good I am glad someone else uses that setup and right now I cant OC. Temps don't mean a thing to me under full load i am still at 34* max. Like semp said, my PSU is a 950 watt PC Power and Cooling so I don't have to worry about that.

The i7 has a lower voltage and a quicker processing times, but not really noticeable to the gamer. On looking at a mother board I look at a couple of things..
1. What type of Ram it takes. The more the better, but just remember it will automatically revert to your lowest ram speed if you mix them up.
2. Ability to install my dual video cards in sli plus my sound card.
3. NO built in video card.

The PC Power and Cooling has changed manufactures and from what i have heard they are cheaply manufactured now. I got one when they were still good.

Semp because of a limited budget I had to get what I posted.

I will post all real time info here as soon as I get the monitoring programs.
