EDIT: Nothing here now. :cry  I did find the website I was thinking of though  http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/2  while the forecast was for calm, the current picture says "Extreme" but I'm only right on the edge of the visible ring.
i remember hearing somewhere (not really sure where) that the atmosphere can reflect certain things off of it and it shows up miles away from where it originally started.

and like i  said it was a GUESS.

Supposedly you could see it here in Alabama last night but no one I know has any pictures of it from around here.
