Command of CV
« on: October 30, 2011, 07:08:58 PM »
I would like to see the command of the CV limited to one sector.  If you are not either on the CV or in the adjoining sector you would give up a command of the CV.

Recently while defending the CV someone took command and turned it just as bombers were approaching.  Consequently the boat was sunk by the actions of someone who wasn't even there.

how do you know they weren't on the boat? turning the boat is the best defense against level bombers, going straight isn't. are you sure you know what you're talking about?

Hiryu almost got hit.  I'm curious as to what the altitude of the B-17's were... :headscratch:

Yes i know what I AM TALKING About ,I was there had just turned boat ,boat then turned opposite way by someone of higher rank who wasn't on range  or gun mount. :bhead
So Boat stayed on course and down it went! So I ask you Gyrene "Do you know what you are talking about?"
I still would like to see control of CV limited to someone on boat or limited to 1 sector away!

The limit has been brought up before to no avail. They should be close to the CV to control it I think.

It would take away folks ability to take it and run it to a specific area then get on it though. I can see where that would not necessarily be good.

Maybe a higher ranked individual could take over to get the group in position but if a con passes into range causing the CV to blink the CV would automatically release unless the ranked individual was within a certain range him or herself.

What makes you think they were not in the tower?

Maybe if you worded it better you might sound like you know what you're talking about.
...Cause that sure doesn't.  Turning a CV just as the bombers approach is pretty standard as an acceptable defense.

There are a few issues I have with the rank based system.

1. Score doesn't equal experience.
2. Self appointed "Generals" will take command of a CV because they alone decide it is needed elsewhere.
3. Player takes control and is unable to relinquish control or take evasive action because they are otherwise engaged.

In part, I'd like to see the CV become steerable like any other GV, field gun or shore battery. I don't like how putsy the current system is. I spot a dive bomber coming in hot, I want to throw the wheel hard to port and disrupt the attack, not click on some map, wasting precious time.  When there is a live person at the helm the plotted course would be overridden, when there is no one on board, the CV will go back to the plotted course. Heck, even make the fleet groundable when a player is in direct control, add some risk to it.

People will ground CV's on purpose if that were possible.  Believe it.

Would it be possible to make it so that the CV is only controlable from the bridge and not just from any airfield tower, plane or gv or 8" or 5" gun position.  You could still keep the rank system in place but make the person be on the CV in person.     Flame on.
