Stop confusing me by answering my question with questions dernit, I can't make it any more simple.  It looks like an earlier model to me, and I am asking what the resource you are pulling it from cites the model as Moot, or no habla ingles?

Missed the edit.  There is no specific model type given for that schematic.  I know I got it from one book, but all I remember now is that it also shows up in Warplanes of the Luftwaffe.

I am asking what it is about the canopy that you recognize as "earlier".

The open ports in the aft section of it, although I may be wrong about it being time specific.  Running out of time today, but I'll try to find where the source is that has me thinking the streamlined version came out later as a later development and the demand for the 410 as a faster bomber intercpetor peaked before it eventualy was cancelled completely, mostly because of the bombers the Luft so desperatley wanted the 410 (and anything else) to stop.

Yes, we need more Soviet planes (for special events, anyway), but . . .

the ones we need are the Yak-1, LaGG-3, and Pe-2.

The Yak-3 got into the war after the Yak-9, and it has very similar performance to the Yak-9.  So, it doesn't add much, in my opinion.  Late-war Soviet is already well covered by the Yak-9, La-5, and La-7.

While the Yak-3 and Yak-9U were of similar vintage, they were different in several ways. The -3 was considered more maneuverable, but a somewhat slower in terms of maximum speed. From what I've read, the -3 climbed better and accelerated faster, while turning smaller circles at higher rate. Performance wise, the difference isn't unlike that between the Bf 109G-14 and Bf 109K-4, and greater than the difference between the P-51B and P-51D.

I hear you.  Still, for late war, we are well covered right now, but for early to mid-war Eastern Front scenarios, we need the Yak-1, LaGG-3, and Pe-2.

The wierd thing is that it is the Yak3 that epitomises the late VVS Yak variant more than the belated Yak9U.

The Yak 3 VK105 PF2 was in frontline action from early June 44 reaching a total 4480 produced before the Yak3 finished the war in Manchuria and production had switched to the VK107 type (never to see combat in WWII)
The Yak 9U (VK107) was under combat assessment with one regiment from October 44 to January 45 when only then it was released to subsequent combat regiments totalling approx 2500 produced by mid 45 with approx 750 on strength by Mid May 45.

Some 35,000 plus Yak fighter variants had been produced by the war end................
