Cain't cure stoopid :)

Seriously, that car looks like a wet dream for a mustang enthusiast.  Unfortunately I think a lot of mustang enthusiasm on this BBS ends when the price goes much beyond invoice  :lol

I could see myself getting some sort of mustang for a fun car to drive when I don't need to haul around 2 little kids, but I don't see spending anywhere near 100 grand on a mustang of any type.  If I'm going to spend that much money, I'm going to get something bred for overall performance, and the mustang's center of gravity alone overshoots the mark by at least a foot.  For 100k I could get one heck of a nice M-series beemer, a forced induction mercedes, any number of jaguars, almost any non-turbo porsche, a Z06 vette with enough left over to add a blower... you get the picture.  Mustangs are nice but I don't know if this forum has many "100 grand nice" mustang enthusiasts  :O

if i had the money, and were still as into drag racing as i used to be, i'd jump all over something like that. it's basically a turnkey superstock racer.......and you know it's right.
i think ford's aiming at those that don't have the time to build themselves with this. and as noted, they'll be including the 5 liter too, and going after all the nhra classes.

Cant you buy Mustang for 30G's invest another 20 and make it just as straight line quick?

by the time you've bought the car, stripped it, modified the suspension, changed the rear, brakes, added the supercharger, and engine(remember, the cobrajets use 5.4 liters), built and installed either the race ready c4, or powerslide, installed the rollcage, installed the associated electrical and fuel systems, if you aren't over that cost, you're gonna be pretty dam close....then there's all of your labor too.

or if you happen to be financially blessed, you can cut a check for 90-100k, and go racing.  :aok

i think the boss302r(i think they may have changed that designation to s for 2012) costs about the same, and remember,.....they came within a bears hair of taking the manufacturers championship from bmw in the continental tire challenge this year. and that is again in a factory built car.  :aok

i basically just posted that link, 'cause it's a ford drag racers wet dream on wheels.

find one beating a new one. that was a fox body stang. they were high 14 second cars at best, if left stock. mid 15's on average.

i think for the "john forces", "warren johnsons", "don prudhommes", "shirly muldownys", and the rest of the "big" racers there is. i don't know what's in it for super stockers, or street stockers.

when we used to run the camaro, our winnings basically went back into the car. mostly, because about the time we got the car figured out, is about when the engine(454) started nickel and diming us.

i hear ya on that one.

virtually every single time i climbed outta that camaro, or my 89gt, it was the same rush. i just wanna try road racing now, seeing as i've finally got a car that could easily run with the big dogs.....and perhaps that rush will last a little longer than 10-12 seconds at a time

There's no money in drag racing. My coworker has raced for years and runs in $500 to win events. That isn't going to cut it.

The guys/gals who run every week in the gamblers while I'm goofing off on street nights and test and tunes have $20,000-60,000 cars to win a couple hundred bucks. The pro mod cars are six figure cars in $2000-5000 to win races.

Then there's the trucks/trailers/tools/support/labor and time investments.

You have to love it and use your winnings to offset the costs of your hobby.

Hell I want a GT500 to use as a track day car. I'll never be "in the black" financially with it but 4-5 road course track days a year is going to be a heck of a lot of fun.

on gamblers night, i've lost to....and later beaten.......19 second mercurys. that loss was funny actually. i was dialed somewhere around the 10.20's, and he was in the upper 19's. i can tell ya, that light seemed to take forever.
i clearly remember thinking "i ain't gonna catch him, i ain't gonna catch him, i ain't.....chit!!! i got him!!" as i get off the throttle, on the brakes, and still go cruisin by him, to run out by nearly 2 full tenths.

it was 2 or 3 weeks later that i lined up next to that same dood.......'cept i was dialed around 10.10 or so, and i ran my number on the money.  :aok

Without knowing the particulars of the MR2,stock they run about the same times. It's only got 200hp and 200 footpounds of torque.

I have seen afew MR2's pushing over 450 hp and that's without No2.  I've wanted 1 of these for years but the prices were just too high or they were righthand drives, these days though the prices have fallen to reasonable.  If I wasn't such a tightwad,I'd spend the 4 or 5 grand and get 1,they're almost like mini Ferraris that you can service at any Toyota dealer.

   YMMV.

when i look at things like them, i still think "Golly-gee, that'd make a FUN v-8 swap!"  i think that with pretty much any of the 2 seaters.....i have one customer that almost gave me his mg when i told him that.....'cause it wasn't starting at the pumps out front. if he had, i'd have ripped everything out, and plunked an ohv 5 liter into her.

Cap,

Would be kinda tough to swap a V8 into a MR2,I suppose there's a few V8 front drivers that might work, remember the engine is in the back!  Then if you managed the swap you'd have issues with too much weight out back, they're tough enough to drive in stock trim, cant imagine what it would be like with a couple extra 100 pounds.

You don't dare lift off gas in a corner or the rear will quickly become the front, that would be made much worse with extra weight in back.  Those MR2's,last gen,are around 2400 lbs so just an extra 50 or so HP makes a huge difference and you can accomplish that with a simple intercooler upgrade.

    :salute

PS: they're nothing like an MG,they have heat, electrics work and they start even when it's not raining!!!! :D
