Would Adding Enemies' Names to Their Icons Affect Gameplay?
« on: November 12, 2011, 09:28:45 PM »
Would it? What does everyone else thinks? I sometimes get into dogfights with 2+ people and you can't tell who you were fighting with if another plane received the kill.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Sure it would.  A lot of good sticks would end up only in jets as the second they got spotted, folks would run.  They'd need a jet just to keep up and get a kill now and then.

And folks like myself would die even more as my name would scream 'easy kill!"

This, and the fact if they see bruv119 for example they would either run away or a mass group of people may be hunting him down

Run? No, if it were me, I'd fly right to them and bring them down or at least try. And it would be nice to see a friend, rub your hands together and cackle as the fight is about to begin, because you know it's gonna be good one.

What about two options:
1: to let your name be displayed above your icon, as the enemy sees it.
2: to turn off names above icons, as viewing enemies.

Basically it would start a massive pick fest for known players

I vote to not see at all who you shoot down or who you shoot down.

I vote for icons to be very generic from 3000-6000 yards, then only the basic ICON from 600-3000 yards, and then from 0-600 yards have the variant available or ID.

There is far too much information given as to who we engage and what we are engaging.

I prefer to learn the better sticks and how they fly, half the fun part for me in the first merge is to figure out who I'm about to fight and if it is going to matter.

That's not the point you can surround yourself as much as you can, but they will still see who is who

This would certainly be fun for some, some of the time, perhaps even most for most of the time, but some or all would hate it all of the time and call it unrealistic...and the latter crowd would be correct.
The gamey sterility of knowing or being known would ruin the suspense that culminates in the message "Grizz shot you down"  :(
I think that although this shouldn't have a place in the MA, it would be a great option in the DA.

We can already see the potential side effects of this in KOTH. People will immediately target and pick the person they think is the biggest threat, regardless of position of aircraft, etc.
It will take out the unknown factor in a fight and make it more boring, imo.

At every merge I assume it's Bruv or one of equal lethality...I'm too busy to read the name.
