ressource gauges
« on: November 18, 2011, 01:03:31 PM »
Hello cartoon warriors,

Everyone knows than in a war resources are limited, yet in the LWA, any player can waste an unlimited number of top airframes and large bombs, and send countless cartoon soldiers to death. This could be changed, and beyond the fact that the change will limit the players actions a bit, it can be used to equilibrate certain aspects of the game, and give new strategic possibilities within the arenas.

Here is what I propose, this is not final in any way and feel free to critic in a constructive way:

- each player will have his own resource gauge (possibilities for airfields or squads to have their own gauge, possible 'local eny'). The value if the equipment that the player didn't bring back to safety (landed) will be deducted from the resource gauge. This includes 1k bombs and troops.

 - the gauge will recharge over time (thinking about 1 hour). The recharge rate and maximum could be changed by the country's factories current state (zone factories?), maybe the number of players in your country, and the player's actions (more on that later)

- resource cost: this is the most delicate point IMO. 1/ENY seems like a good basis for the price of vehicles and planes, but this doesn't cover the price for ordinance and troops... 500lb bombs and sets of 3troops should be always free, 1k bombs and 10 troops a bit limited but the overall loadout destructive capability should be taken into account, otherwise everyone will fly A20's. The prices should be set to limit the bomb-bail-troops setups. Eny 10 and lower airplanes would cost a kidney, while eny 30 rides would be almost free (can't ride a P51D? take a P51B). This should put more incentive to take mid war rides.

the system could replace the need for perk points to a certain extent, the perks would be spent to instantly increase the resource gauge, allowing uber rides to be rented.

That's all I can think of right now, flame on!

Local ENY doesn't work. Not for a free-flow LWA environment. It might have uses in other arenas, scenarios, whatnot. It's too easy to game and maniupulate and or just be a griefer and disrupt others' gameplay that way. There's a reason AH doesn't limit your ride (other than perks, which don't stop you from upping the plane, they just cost you).

You didn't read anything and are already spouting nonsence, classic krusty. It took me an hour to express this in english, at least red it before judging

Hold your insults until you're facing a mirror.

I read your post and it's the same as a number of other localized ENY requests. You want to limit a player's ability to select and choose airplanes, perhaps because you want to limit gang banging, hordes, or you just are tired of running into gaggles of late-war rides. The end result, localized ENY ratings, punish others and reward no one. It's a punitive system and it doesn't address the problems. A horde of A-20Gs is still a horde. Hordes derive success not from the planes they fly but the sheer vast numbers dogpiling onto a target.

So take your insults and go re-read your own post and look at it with a more critical eye.

EDIT: I don't appreciate baseless insults for responding directly to a topic in a polite manner. Your response was in no way justified. If you have a problem with the English Language, I'm sorry but you can't call what I typed "nonsense" -- not if you understood it.

The noob or casual player like me would soon run out of "resources" and drop our subscription. Unintended consequences that I don't think you're wanting.

Each time you log in your gauge is full, casual or not. In most games you can't access all the best stuff from day 1.

My intend is not to limit hordes. My intend is more subtle. Stop trying to guess what I think. And thank god I'm not like you.

[perk everything, then give you perks for time played]

I think it works ok the way it is at the moment, although theres a few tweaks I'd make to the perk prices.

What I find neat about many other of the online games out there is the ability to "work your way up". I think this is what makes many of these games so addicting to people (EVE, WoW, WoT, etc).

Now, what's cool about Aces High is - you have access to all of the content from day one. By doing this, though, there is no long term goal or structure for those who like that.

my system is meant to give the war some substance. Strategic bombing would have a meaning, busting missions would have a meaning.

If all you want is to kill planes there's an arena for that.

I agree that limiting players isn't the way to go. HTC has never been that big on setting limits. You pay your subscription and you can do anything.

On the other hand setting things up to "work your way up" might work, the hanging a carrot in front of the horse type thing. People want to capture bases and win the war, ok thats fine, change the way you have to go about that. Now its get 50 guys together and roll over base after base as quick as you can.

Change the parameters. the more people you bring, the harder the buildings are. 5 guys can wipe out a town, but with 25 guys there they would need all the bombs they carry to take down the same town. Same end game, they capture the towns, but now both small groups and large groups can do it. Small need to do it quick and with skill, large group need more time. Time equals more of a chance to defend, more combat.

Make the strat work again. split it back up to encourage more flights to different areas of the maps, creates more chances to intercept and have more combats (5 minute return to tower for all bailers  :devil you bail, you wait in the tower to re-up)

Set up ready rooms for mission joiners. Those who join and complete the missions objective assigned to those in the mission (capture base, take out 5 fighters for fighter sweep, take down 3 buff boxes for bomber sweep) get 5 perk points. Limit mission rooms to 20 people. smaller missions, but more of them. Again more combat.

There are so many thing that could be done to "lead" the players to play a bigger game, even using the same goals of winning the war.
