109 Training Request

  I'm in the TA most evenings after 8 or 9 pm est. I'd be happy to help you with the 109 series planes. Most find the hardest thing to learn is the gunnery and I agree with this,wish I knew how those muppets do it.....

 You need to learn throttle control and have to keep an eye on airspeed,it can be a busy plane at times but that just makes the kills that more satisfying!


 BTW. thx Prevert for your kind words,just wish some would keep theirs in other forums.






   

I am far from a master of the taters...but I do know how they get that way...its all about the angles and setting up the shot....set up the shot right and its almost impossible to miss.

That's a fact. I played in the offline arena last night instead of the MA trying to set shots up. I saw some improvement but damn it's not easy.

Bump. Where ya Rabbit. I need some help too. What's convergence do use? I can't hit squat in these 109s. I like the plane alot but I just can't kill when I fly the things.

I liked to use 275 for mine. Anywhere from 200-300 worked just fine for me. It's the loft with the Tater, since it's center mounted.

my convergence is at 250, and like others have said, its about setting up a snap shot where you are within 200m of the other plane.

I am fairly conversant with the 109, all variants, but I do have my favorites.

Any time you see me in any arena (my cpid is the same as here...RTR) give me a shout if you want to train or just need a target. 109"s are a fun bird,  and they are underrated for the most part...unjustly so.

Also, pop into the TA if you have time and look up Morfiend, he is a remarkable resource and a pretty good 109 aficionado.

I keep my taters at 250 due to their balistics being horrible.  Try not to shoot from a dead 6, it's hard to keep eyes on the target and remain accurate, you'll waste a lot of ammo.  I like to slash at the target for a large wing profile, or come in with enough smack to scare them into scissoring as I throttle back and plant a tater in the cockpit.

Good film from the old days.

In fact, if you watch closely you will see some very magik moves...theres even hints to flap use...pay attention to the barrel rolls...watch for the vert move....and pay attention to how the target is tracked in the views.

For begginners it will be hard to see these things in the video. I recommend you watch it several times in a row...you will see it...if you pay attention.

I've always liked to try and force a overshoot in the K4. It's a good way to set up a close shot. Heres a few videos i made back in the day with some good k4 overshoots.

Wouldn't it be easier in the TA, using taters only.  I hit is obviously a kill.  much quicker fight resets, when you don't have to re-up each duel.  Get a hit, seperate 5k and remerge, repeat until ammo depleted or happy with results.  I know it's more satisfying when the guy goes kaplooie in the DA, but you can get more fighting time in the TA.

Oh the TA is great, its just most of the time I've logged in, there is no one in the TA, unless I log in the sec I get home (which is rarely possible). I guess if one were to schedule and appointment with a trainer, that would be a different story.

The TA is not used like it should be. I confess I haven't been there in years.

One cool thing is that you can turn on the hit box (?? name) to see where you should shoot. This is a HUGE learning tool for shooting 30mm (taters). I have done it offline and it helped greatly. But using it in the training arena against real opponents would definitly help people who are learning the 109.

Both films are great!

The first one is best. lots info there for tracking and making the shot....also nice barrel rolls and reversals. ....very good learning tool.
