I realized last night
« on: November 19, 2011, 12:56:39 PM »
That a big part of my old gameplay was missing.  I really miss being able to drive a GV half a sector to lay waste to a factory and to dodge the planes that tried to hit me along the way or at the factory once they knew I was there.

I also rarely fly bombers anymore.  I used to regularily take runs at the strats.  Ditto for attack planes.  I simply have no desire to go flatten fields.  Fields are supposed to spawn fights.  Factories interspersed among the map also produced fights of a different nature.  Those fights are gone.

I'd go as far as to say the current remote strat system actually encourages horde-play.  There's simply less options for the lesser skilled to get into and make a difference in the war effort.

Please please please HT, bring back the old strat system.  3/5 of my game went away not counting the reduced buff and GV hunting options.  Flying fighters and driving GV's is fun but a few more options would be much much better.

Otherwise...  :uhoh I'm leaving.  ;)

I really miss the old zone bases and zone strat system.  It added some amount of tactics to the game asside from horde flatten rinse repeat.

You needed to understand the dynamics, albiet very limited ones, of how convoys were dispatched, and how timers in areas were affected by local supplies being brought down.  It was already difficult then for it to have a huge effect, unless you bombed 100% of the production capacity.  Taking a zone base however had a huge disruption on supplies.

All pipe dreams.

One person would attack the strats and take them down all by themselves. One or two people would shoot them down.

Essentially it was something close to blow up.

I realized last night that it was actually a Bald Eagle I was looking at, not some weird flying crow.   :aok

old strats had an effect on nme factories, nowadays it dont, or not as much. today u have to fly 1 hour to 2 hrs to get a good bomb run on it plus u have to be ina big ol horde to possibly make it back alive. BIG plus one need them back. imagine takin down a nme strat w a king tiger n a couple whirbys defending  :O on the old strat system.

what we have now is the 3rd version of strats since i've been playing.  i can recollect some of the challenges with the zone system.  the strats in 2002, almost can't recall clearly.  oops, i think it's coming back . . . just recalling hitting grunt training to 0% with squaddies.  and trying to get the city to 0% but coming up short.

you know, these things are "systems."  they are interrelated -- have causal relationships which in turn can affect the game's outcome.  And not just reset either.  it was one of the features i liked best about AH back in 2002 to about 2004 if i'm recollecting correctly.

if the boards were any measure of player opinion, many hated that old strat system.  and i think each revision was met by players with loud applause.

when i saw the bring back the old strats posts (have there been 2 over the past bit), i thought it curious.

the strats are still there, they still can be bombed.  guess, i'll have to read more threads.  oh joy  ;)

ty greens, i had forgotten, and now recall.  since i started, i've always been a toolshedding warwinner.  still am.  but before y'all get all excited about the old system consider these things: the airfield, vbase, port elements of troops/supplies, ord, radar, and fuel (this one doesn't much count anymore because it can only be porked to 75% when it used to be able to be porked to 25% (ah, those were the days :)).

There's the furballing good fight side to the equation.  Then there's the mega horders.  How would such changes affect them?  Then there's HTC's success as a business.  Happy customers and lots and lots of them is the name of the game.

I guess my point is there is more to any change than the stuff that would suit me best.  Which of course is a bummer.

But my heart and soul is with bald eagle.

An odd game have we: it's really games within a game.

+1  :rock....and whatever happened to trains?

Trains supply the strats. When they were separate, each one had a supply train. Now that the strats are grouped together in the mega-city, only one train is used - with an enlarged resupply area to cover all the strats with that one train.
