Pure speculation - but don't most MMOs these days index connected players by a unique player ID/SN?  I think it's only better for continuity across a wider network of servers and databases than what AH is using, but it may be a resolution.

And now it's UPTOWN's Top Ten Reasons for receiving an assist while logging in and sitting in the tower.

(not to be confused with David Letterman's Top Ten final words from Osama Bin Laden http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=CdsQAXIyzzk )

Number 10.
Each person gets a unique index as they log on. When some one leaves and a new person comes , the new person gets the previous index. Some how when the player you replaced left, his damage done did not get cleaned from the system. Hence when the aColito left, you got the assist.

Number 9.
I bet it was Colito's Way.

Number 8.
YOUR MOM GOT YOU A KILL?

Number 7.
He saw that you logged on and committed suiside, so he got the kill but you got the assist.

Number 6.
SYSTEM is getting old.  :old:    :noid

Number 5.
He must have lawndarted into the tower... LOL

Number 4.
The Force is strong in this one.

Number 3.
0:50..... A Devinne gift should never be questioned.
Find and fulfill your destiny Uptown.................... :aok

Number 2.
... a faster than light nutrino logs into the MA...

And finally the number 1 reason Uptown got an assist while logging in and sitting in the tower.

No problem Chuck.  Oh, and forgot to mention Chuck is not a score HO, so he doesn't usually give a lengthy discription over channel 200 on how he got the kill, no matter how many Colitas he has bagged.

On a "for real, for real" note, I happen to know that Chuck is very active along with the Bush family in Texas with drug resistance programs.  So, all colitas should be forewarned

......."better run to the forest,
'cause here comes Chuck Norris
who might approve of this thread
and sometimes chew through hot lead

but if you get caught
with the drugs he has fought
you might find yourself dead
from a kick in the head
and land in the tower instead"

I've got you beat, because I've logged on and received actual kills just like that. Twice. Once in AHI and once in AHII, I think. Unfortunately, as is always the case, I can't prove it. But it always entertained me.

I thought it was due to the old "walking around" system. Not many people ever noticed it, but AHI had a slider in the settings called "movement speed" that defaulted to maximum. However, if you moved it all the way to zero, any time you moved positions on the ground (Tower, Hangar, Map Room, O'Club[can't remember if this setting survived this shift to AHII for a while], even between bases), it revealed that your "camera" actually "walked" there manually...you'd turn, walk out of the tower, down the stairs, then to wherever you were going. Which, of course, meant hours of walking if you were changing bases to the other side of the map. Even with it maxed, if you moved a very long distance and watched closely, you could see one or two frames of yourself running there.
Putting this together with the "everybody seems to spawn into the 10,10 sector when logging in" bug, I thought maybe I was getting proxies as my character uber-ran between 10,10 and the base tower.
