My ATI Radeon 5750 series cock up
« on: December 05, 2011, 05:14:20 PM »
I recently and stupidly updated my drivers and Catalyst Control Centre sofware. I don't know where to start to undo my thoughtlessness turning on the auto updates.
The new update I can't seem to undo from the recent updates list on my Win764bit Acion Centre. (The update doesn't even appear in the list)

The updates have made AntiAliasing resourse thirsty and of poor quality. I had usually ran AcesHigh with x2 narrowtent, and Super Sampling which ran at 60fps even with alot of aircraft around.
Now I've had to drop the sampling to box and multi-sampling, and knock down a number of other sliders within the CCC just to keep the same fps constant.

I was wondering if any of you super techno wizzes know where to look to get the optimum drivers software and CCC software I so stupidly updated over.
My video card hadn't been updated for a number of months (around January-March 2010) and foolishly I thought an update this evening, that I'd been putting off would prove better.  :bhead

I've searched the AMD/ATI website and can only find downloads of the update I'm trying to remove also..  :bhead :bhead

Any help would be much much much much appreciated

they should definitely have older versions of your drivers....

as far as getting rid of them, not completely sure about windows7...but in XP i would go to add/remove programs remove the drivers and all ATI software....

use CCleaner and remove all traces from your registry...re boot and install the drivers you want.

Take a look at your C drive for an Ati or AMD folder and see if it has your previous driver installation software.

Dolby,

the most recent version you speak of being the Cat 11.11  CCC & Driver?   just curious

I built a PC for a friend and used an old HD3870 using the Cat 11.10 version,  my other gaming PC with the 6870 is also using the Cat 11.10 version, while my Intel gaming rig is still using the Cat 11.8 versions

you posting that you have experienced problems or poor performance with the latest update along with TnDep posting he was experiencing glitches in another thread and different colors, etc... tells methat ATI's newest patch might have a bug or be flukey ........  they will prob have a hotfix patch or newer updated version to Cat 11.12 if this be the case......

I know the Cat 11.4( & or  5 ) version was a tad buggish, but  Cat 11.8  & Cat 11.10 look very stable to me

just a FYI  post..........  YMMV

This being about a 5750, I've got an issue with one as well that may be similar to Dolby's problem.  I got a new 6870 to replace my 5750.  That runs great.  I gave the 5750 to my dad, who was running a Nvidia 9600gt.  We cleaned out all the Nvidia drivers and installed the card.  We then downloaded the driver for the latest release of CCC.  Everything looked fine until we ran AH.  His FR tanked compared to his old 9600.  He used to run 40s and 50s with the 9600.  With the 5750, he's only getting 15-20 even offline.  Even dumping the vid settings WAY down and turning all the advanced settings off he still can't get above 40 frames.

This has me a bit confused, as our computers are fairly similar.  Both of us run core 2 duo processors at similar speeds (3.0 and 3.2 respectively).  Both have the same amount of ram, etc.  Yet when I was using the 5750, AH ran great.  I usually had a 59-60 FR with almost all eye candy on and running the hi-res pack.

I know I'm missing something, but for the life of me I can't figure it out.

Jager,

when you said y'all downloaded and installed the latest ATI CCC Suite/Driver....... are you refering to the Cat 11.11 drivers?  if so,  TnDep was experiencing glitches , lines, transparency and color issues with his new 6870........ so I had him to revert back to the Cat 11.10's  version  ( I know the CAT 11.8's  & the CAT 11.10's  are stable... I know they had issues with the CAT 11.4's / 11.5's & 11.6's.......... with a few hotfixes thrown in the pile on a few of those, and I myself skipped right over the CAT 11.9's )

it might benefit you to drop back to either the 11.10 version or the 11.8 version......  for his  ATI 5750  Video Card

also, even though you both have similarbuilds, his PC could be using more processes, or be set up differently regarding the other software he might use compared to your computer......

hope this might help ya, good luck

I'll give that a shot TC.  I tried 11.11 on his and then tried the original driver that came on the disk with the 5750 (can't remember what build it was, but it was old).  In both cases the FR was horrid.  I'll try 11.10 (and others) tomorrow to see if that fixes it.

Thanks!

I rolled back to version 10.3 for the Driver and 10.5 for the CCC. from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx
It's made my 5750 run much better. I'll just dig up my order forms to type out my build. Hopefully the similarities between our build my help your Dad's Video Card by rolling back to the same versions I have. I've got 60 fps at 90% of the time. 30 or more red guys and it drops about 10 fps.

I'm running Aces High in game at default Graphics at 1680x1050 resolution with x2 AA, through the CCC I'm running;

Smoothvision HD:Anti-Aliasing: Level - Use application settings. Filter - Narrow-tent
Smoothvision HD: Anisptrpic Filtering: Use application settings
Catalyst A.I : Standard
Mipmap Detail Level : High Quality
Wait for vertical refresh: Always On
Anti-Aliasing Mode: Super-sample AA
OpenGL Settings: Triple Buffering

MY PC is a May 2010 build;

If you set anti-aliasing mode to performance you should see an FPS increase, i.e. eliminate the 10 FPS drop, without a noticeable quality difference.

Yeah Dolby there is no reason the 5770 should yield anything less than 50-60 FPS.  That's what I put in the system I built for your former squadmate and he's pretty much maxed out with everything but shadows on and his processor is just a notch slower than yours.

No reason to be using super sample AA.  The visual difference at HD resolutions is negligible at best.. in other words set it to performance you won't notice the difference.

Still a no-go here.  Best FR I can manage out of my dad's system is 30.  I tried numerous drivers and settings, which didn't seem to make any difference.  I'm missing something, I just don't know where.  I ran that same setup for the last year with no issues and a solid 50-60 FR with most of the eye candy turned on.

Any other ideas?

Jager,  can you post a copy of your Dad's  DXDIAG report, please Sir?   Also list any anti-virus or software firewalls being used and if you are using ATI Catalyst Control Center  or if you are just using the ATI Display Driver only........  the CCC will kill some of your framerate.  just using the Display Driver and using the Aces High settings will help you increase the fps some ( not sure how much on his particular system tough )

also post the screen res used and what graphics settings and textures /shadows being used........ ( or just take a screen shot and post it instead of typing it all out )

I am sure we can help you figure it out
