One is fretted, the other isn't. One has a bow, the other doesn't.

It's like saying that if you can play the snare drum in a marching band, you can play a drum kit. Sorta, but not really.
Yes, that is true, but you could still play the easy stuff if you know the other.


oh, and heres what i want to be able to do, every time i attempt it, i screw up and it sounds like a dog crapped out a penguin

Having played Sax for over 25 years, and having the whole set, i can tell you this:
Oddballs play the bass sax
to play the soprano you need to be able to talk street and mispronounce every second word.
alto is really for girls.
baritone is for men with lambchop sideburns
and tenor (which is my main instument) helps with the ladies..
as for the flute most pro sax players have one but will not come out of the closete and admit it.
you will never get me to admit it, never, never.
