I figure a safely rescued and returned pilot would be a score modifier to the event. For example shoot down a fighter and score 10 points for your side, if the pilot of that downed fighter is successfully rescued and returned then you only get 5 points for your side for shooting down the fighter. Or just award a certain amount of points for each downed pilot returned to base. This way rescued pilots could be the deciding factor in a tactical victory for one side or the other after all 3 frame scores are totaled. (FSO events used as the example) I don't think that certain players or squads should be assigned to fly the storch or rescue missions as their primary order; however they could let each squad (again FSO used as the example event) up one or two storches (optional to the squad) per frame, flown by whomever the squad selfdesignates to be the rescue pilot. (probably the first guy shot out of their assigned ride for the frame).
Also something that would be cool, but is probably even less likely to happen:
Since this would encourage people to bail out (instead of riding the doomed plane into a crater) and then wait for possible pick up; there could be a "capture" mechanism implemented so that defenders could then up a jeep or half track and go try to find and capture the pilot who bailed out nearby before the rescue plane showed up. Think of the additional fights/action these changes could bring to FSO and scenarios. Squads trying to stay on station to help protect a downed squadmate and run off any would be captors while the rescue bird is en route. Or defenders slowly circling over a downed enemy pilot trying to direct their capture guys to him (of course most people would just end flight in that situation). I think there would also have to be a change made to show a difference between the end flight capture, and the capture mechanism described in this paragraph.
