Why not just call it a B-25J? Why add the PB instead of the B-25J?

Personally speaking, I'd like the glass nose version with the tail gun for level bombing. AND I'd like the solid nose strafer sans the 75mm -- I don't like the B-25H much. The gun's a little annoying and I'd rather have the proper shape/curve of the nose instead of that blunt variant on the -H.

If I roll in formations I always want the tail gun and the glass nose, but if I lift solor I'll take the strafer. The -J could also carry HVAR 5" rockets, right? It would make a nice town attacker.

Krusty, you need to lighten up and roll with it sometimes :)

I just posted the pics cause they are interesting to me and since we were talking B-25s it seemed like a good place to run with em.

I get it. Folks want tail guns and formations.

My 25 of choice will always be the 25C Strafer so it really doesn't matter to me :)

Perhaps so, and if my tone suggested that, then I'm sorry. It was meant as an honest response.

To my thinking at the time of previous post: B-25J fits the bill! So, why sub in the PB?

If it was just to share some cool pics and bring out the other variant to the front of everybody's mind, then it's all cool.  :aok

The Navy Marine version of the J model will still be a PBJ-1J.  Same thing.

I just liked the photo of the Marine PBJ-1D with the tail gun set up.  One of the interesting things with 25 history is all the mods done.  The G model photo I posted with the 8 gun nose was a Depot mod done in Hawaii.  Low time G models got updated with waist guns, rocket rails, an 8 gun nose package and the tail turret.  Not a lot were done, but they were the first 25s over Japan since the Doolittle raid.

They also modified some low time glass nose D models the same way outside of the 8 gun nose.  The majority of Navy/Marine PBJ-1Ds had the single tail gun also along with package guns under the cockpit.

Just a fun bird to try and figure out all the variants.

So could the B-25H.  14 of them to be exact, 7 on each wing.

PB in all WWII navy designations means partrol bomber. Thats why there is the PBY, the PB4-Y2 and the PBM.
