If I get into a car in Mississippi and drive at 65 miles an hour north to Ohio...  when I get to Ohio and step out of the car, I've actually just broken the laws of physics and warped that distance instantly.  I never moved.  I sat down in my car, sat there for 17 hours, and then magically appeared in Ohio when I opened the door.  This is the same effect you're describing with the carrier.  You're definitely not moving and have a 0 velocity.
I believe that's correct...  or maybe it's all just relative?
