Random comment that answers no one's question.

And no problem Ace, happy to answer any questions.
And yes, those high end cards are expensive for sure, but if you have the muula now, it's worth it, because those card will run every game today, and possibly every game 2 or even 3 years into the future. Much better than buying a new mid range card every year.

Of course, if you're ok with medium or playing on a lower resolution, then go for a cheaper card.
Radeon 5770 is still a very good card, 4850 is rather old but still run today's games decently, 6850/70 like Jäger said is also good.

I myself run a 5570, which is extremely cheap for it's performance and power consumption. Only $70 on Newegg. It runs the newer games fine on lower resolutions or lower settings fine. (I can run Skyrim, BF3, Shogun 2) all on medium/high settings at 1920x1080. Only Shogun 2 lags for me at times, but I can always drop the resolution down further.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

You can also download and use GameBooster 3 from iobit. I use it every time I play a game.

ALSO: You can alt+tab out when you're game is running, bring up your task manager, go to BF3 in your processes, right click it, set priority to HIGH.

If you get an error, go underneath that list and click "Show processes from all users" and try again.

I run BF3 on high or ultra on a ATI 6870 with an intel dual core e8400 and 4GB DDR3 1600 ram.  You don't need a monster system to run the game well.

The 6870 is a decent card and will cost less than $200.  Ya may want to think about going that route.
just installed a fresh copy of BF3 and have a 6850 slightly factory OC'd.... reviews and rumors have it that it will run with 6870's. we shall see if this is true, however I was looking for some sort of input in this direction  :aok :rock

I run BF3 on ultra settings never below 50 FPS with a HD radon 6790 and AMD althlon II 630 @ 2.80 GHz
only a moron would use Dolby positioning in a game.

Ok hope someone can help me on these boards with this since the BF3 boards are a joke for technical help.

I have BF3 installed had 0 problems with Beta with multiplayer play and have 0 problems with campaign mode with max settings.  When I try to connect to the multiplayer servers I always get "game disconnected, could not join server".  Any help anyone can provide would be great.

Check your firewall. Or if you haven't, use another browser. It doesn't work for me on Opera either but it does on IE.

make sure you gave IE9 downloaded. You don't have to use it, but that fixed my issue.

ALSO

Make sure that you have ALL of the current windows updates. If you don't - it will NOT work.

Found the fix for me...

From my experience so far...the non vehicle maps are the most fun so far.  There is a huge "learning curve" in that those who have played forever have a huge advantage with the equipment bonuses then those who are starting out.   This makes vehicle use very hard for the new people.

Call it just different strokes for different folks. I played it all through the Alpha and Beta testing phases and since it was purchased I haven't put in more than 2 hours or so game time wise and honestly didn't miss playing it at all during that time away from it. I spent about 2 hours or so today running and gunning people and generally winning and loosing as I played. As I said I found ZERO fun in it like I used to in these types of games. I might play it again some day but probably not; I haven't touched Medal of Honor (last one) since I uninstalled it and I haven't played BF:BC2 or any other shooter either. Sometimes you just get tired of the SSDD type games and they are all going that way for me if they aren't flight sims.

Glad to hear, and yes, the amount of advantages a veteran might get over a newbie is pretty unfair. But luckily, skill does play a larger role, and it only takes about 5 minutes of game time to unlock the essentials for each class.
