Change the N1K2-J to an N1K2-Ja to match the 3D model
« on: January 13, 2012, 12:46:48 AM »
I was doing my fighter-bomber performance testing and while testing the N1K2-J I noticed that the 3D model has the shackles of an N1K2-Ja:

Seeing as the 3D model is already that of the N1K2-Ja, I would like to see the ability to carry four 250kg bombs added to it.  I can't imagine it would take much work and the hard points are, as shown, already modeled.  It would be nice for the Japanese to have a fighter-bomber to compete with things like the P-51D, Typhoon Mk Ib and Fw190F-8.

So far as I know the N1K2-Ja performed and handled the same as the N1K2-J except that it had hard points for four 250kg bombs instead of just two 250kg bombs.

Some time again HTC added hardpoints for various aircraft, including (IIRC) centerline points on
later model F4Us, but never added the ord capacity. I think this will be a future feature.

Give us Ki-84-I-Otsu's 20mm*4 loadout and 2000HP homare engine (max speed 660km/h) too... :)

190 F-8/U1 with the two 80gal droptanks under the wings, or the ETC 503 bombrack under each wing, carrying a 250kg bomb each. Also, R4M rockets would be nice.

But if it were added, the N1K2 would be the ultimate "bomb****".  There is not a true fighter in the game that carries 4 bombs that are easily capable of taking out a GV.  I do not consider the mossie as a true figher.
You can argue that the P47 can carry two 1000lbs bombs and a 500, but thats not 4, and a reasonably average pilot can easily hit a gv with 250kgs

With all the complaints about "bomb****ing" why would anyone want this?

Because it gives more options for diversity.  Right now the American bomb truck fighters have become more and more dominant over the years.  The N1K2, the most used Axis aircraft, has dropped sharply in usage.  The big four used to be the P-51D and Spitfire Mk IX (later Spitfire Mk XVI), which took the top two spots by a fair margin occasionally with the Spit on top, followed by the La-7 and N1K2-J, both a bit behind the two leaders but well ahead of the fifth spot.  Now the P-51D absolutely dominates the top spot with the La-7 and Spitfire Mk XVI neck and neck way behind the P-51, they are followed by the F4U-1D.

Lets get a competitive Axis fighter that carries a useful bombload, not just less than half of what the P-51D carries.  The N1K2-Ja would still have serious deficiencies as its performance drops off sharply over 8k and it is not exactly fast. It would also help balance later war Pacific Theater settings by giving the Japanese side a viable fighter-bomber, something they lack compared to the P-51D, P-47N, F6F-5 and F4U-1D.

(BTW, the Mossie is a superior fighter, in general, to the P-51D, but 500lb bombs are far, far less effective at tank killing that 1000lb bombs)

10 rockets will kill anything this side of a Tiger II. Hell, I've even poped tanks with the british 60lbers on the typhoon.

The only tank I have not popped with a 60lb rocket is a Tiger II.  I also haven't managed to pop a Tiger II with a 500lb bomb.

Yes, but the point isn't that the 60lbers are less effective (they aren't) the point is that there are fewer of them, which makes hits less likely.

They ricochet off of Tiger IIs, as do the American and Russian rockets.  Only the German rockets on the Fw190F-8 are capable of killing a Tiger II.
