VOX Issues
« on: January 13, 2012, 08:26:46 PM »
I have been experiencing extreme difficulties with the VOX. I constantly have to use the .resetv command to reset every two minutes  or so. All game sounds are unaffected. I have watched my net status and saw no abnormalities while experiencing the issue. Skuzzy mentioned connection to the internet as a possible cause. However, my ping is steady at 47 most of the time with very little change. I use a direct ethernet connection to a cable modem.

This issue developed shortly after the last update, as I have not had this problem in the past. I have spoken to several other players experiencing the same issue. Need I say that it drastically changes the experience of the game when all communication is lost so no check six calls, or any other Situational awareness alerts can come across or be communicated.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, Look into possible issues with the Miles Sound updates.

I have emailed dxdiag with no information returned. I can only assume nothing was found to be an issue.

I am interested to know how many other players are affected by this issue and how and if they were able to fix it.

Your problem might be too many processes running, which may cause many dropped data packets between you and the game servers. Dropped packets, if bad enough, would cause the game to switch from UDP protocol to TCP, which pretty much pooches vox and generally can lead to imminent discos. Ping rates are not an indication of data quality.

You may also want to look into your computer processes. If you have too many running causing a resource problem in your computer one of the first things dropped is vox.

I run the "gamebooster" program prior to starting the game to minimize background processes. I went in and found 40+/- processess running. I shutdown many of them but, I honestly dont know which ones are supposed to be running and which ones are crud in the background. I use the Malbytes program to get rid of malware, anything else you mught be able to think of?

Thanks for the help

BlackVipers site http://www.blackviper.com/ has good suggestions. Scroll down to "Popular Content" for a list of service configurations. Pick your OS and then pick how much you want to tweak it. He has good explanations of what they do and whether or not to turn them off, leave them alone.

instead of gamebooster try using AlicrityPC.   http://alacritypc.kensalter.com/ once set up it does the best of all of the gaming prep programs i have seen yet. its easy to learn simple to use and will allow you to double click the icon and it will take it from shutting down services to cleaning out memory forcing idle programs to complete to starting your applications and after you close the game it will restart everything for you....

it has many uses beyond just for games, but it does work great on them.

PD are you still using a Pentium D system with a 9400GT card and a SB X-Fi card?

Does your motherboard have onboard audio?  If so remove the SB drivers and the SB card then install new sound drivers for your motherboard and see if it still happens.  You could very well be experiencing problems with the SB card itself.  It's also possible that Microsoft replaced your SB drivers with Microsoft drivers during a windows update at one time.  This can become problematic.

Thanks for the software suggestions, I will look into them.

Tigger,

Yes I am still using that configuration(disturbed that you knew that). I will look into the SB Drivers. A little timid when it comes to the motherboard drivers. I am not sure that I have enough experience to fiddle with that and not let the magic blue smike out, lol.

MUHAHAHA I know EVERYTHING!  I'll just say that my name has changed since I signed up for this BBS but you can probably figure out who I am.  Do you have a second set of audio ports on the back of the computer?  If so let me know what motherboard you have and I'll be happy to help find you the drivers.

Then it's a matter of removing the Sound Blaster card and plugging your mic/speakers into the other ports instead.  Then you boot up and install the motherboard sound drivers and go from there.
