I'm pretty sure we have this effect.
The "shrapnel"/"debris" that hit your plane does no damage, just causes sound effects if you fly through them. And I think I remember reading somewhere that it actually pretty hard to blow up a bomb without its fuse being turned on (which only happens when you drop them), I could be wrong, so waiting for an expert to enlighten us on this subject. Of course, no matter what, a 88mm going into a bomb bay would mean insta-death for the plane and anything else within a couple hundred yards.
Right now, planes only blow up if they take a sufficient amount of damage (bunch of taters, puffy ack, or fuel fire), or the pilot dies.
