Nashorn

[Tank-Ace]

Nashorn (pronounced Nahz-horn), a thinly armored, heavy hitting German tank destroyer from WWII. Lightly armored but heavily armed and highly manuverable. Generally well liked by their crews, due to their unmatched firepower, which allowed them to engage enemy armor from beyond the range of effective retaliation, and because of its superb manuverability, which was important on the Russian steepes, especially during the rasputitsa.

Armament: 8,8cm Pak 43/1 L'71, the anti-tank gun version of the Tiger II's KwK 43. 40 rounds of ammunition were carried.

Its a lightly armored, (probably) cheaply perked vehicle mounting the 88mm L'71. What more needs to be said?

Not entirely, the Nashorn was quite high, crew members stood up and had a 360 degree open view, It's best tactic was to sit on the back side of a hill, the height of the gun barrel, means only the Gun is visible to the enemy.

The Nashorn had a few Tank Aces, one which destroyed a T34/41 at over 1.5 miles away - the 88mm L/71 is the same gun used on the King Tiger.

No armor and 25mph speed, means you rely on the range of the gun vs speed and mobility.

Not real good Vis for the driver ... notice the hatch under the gun in the pics posted? That's where the driver entered ... He sat in a tight little nook and had a small slit to look thru, kind of like an OSTWIND ... It's a great gun. A usefull tank killer. It would probably have to be highly perked (think firefly) in order to keep the game balanced.

He sat in a tight little nook and had a small slit to look thru, kind of like an OSTWIND ... It's a great gun. A usefull tank killer. It would probably have to be highly perked (think firefly) in order to keep the game balanced.

Ummm.... you realize that poor vizability for the driver isn't a unique feature among WWII tanks, correct? To get a good view, you really need to drive unbuttoned.

As for the perk price.... I see maybe 10. This thing has the armor of an M18, has a very high silouette (that means its difficult to hide), lacks a turret, and isn't even all that fast.

How bout some of the earlier in the game tanks for North Africa or the Russian Front?  Or even France 1940.

I agree, I would much rather see some MidWar tanks, specifically 1941-1942 at most.

the North African Campaign was always my highest interest, since we gained the Pz4-F, i'd love to see a Panzer IIIG, Crusader, Matilda.

Nice setup would be:

Sure, I also realise that ANY tank commander can climb on top of his vehicle, use his binoculars, and have EXCELLENT visibility.

When considering the issue of visibility, the important factors are Driver Visibility and Gunner Visibility ... when underfire.  The Nashorn gunner was limited to a periscope used for observation and sighting which isn't particularly reliable. This isn't unique either.

The Firefly isn't all that fast either, and serves essentially the same role (LW). A comparable Perk Price is reasonable. If you're hoping to sneak this into MIDWAR? Forget it ! The Gun put's it in a class with the tiger and it should be perked accordingly.
