Not so much, really. The fight was really an administrators and an engineer's battle. The pilots wanted them. They had better performance than the 110Cs they were replacing. They were being field tested in 1940, even. Can you imagine the impact they would have had on early war planes with their performance? The 210C lengthened the tail and added leading edge slats and remedied most of the problems already.
The rest was political bickering, in-fighting, and bureaucratic saber rattling.
Although... Willi Messerschmitt should really know how to design a set of landing gear and brakes by then. THAT was truly inexcusable. More planes lost due to failing gear or no brakes than in combat, I'd wager!
