Patch 2 Frame Rate issues.
« on: January 31, 2012, 06:22:37 PM »
When the newest patch was released, I experienced a slight drop in frame rate, but was able to overcome this by turning off my bump map terrain which was previously enabled.  This was fine, and I enjoyed 60FPS for the rest of the day no problems, and flew fine all weekend.  I downloaded the newest patch today, and without any changes to video settings, I'm hitting 45FPS sitting in the tower with nothing going on around it.  If I look around, it drops to 30FPS.  If I continue to look around, the video memory indicator continues to fill up like it's not dumping data or something.

I'm running 512 shadow, detailed terrain and water, no bumping, no ground clutter, anti aliasing turned off

[EDIT:]  I tried flying and was getting frame rate drops and frame freezes so severe it was impossible to see what was going on.  This was translating into command inputs being disregarded by the game while the frame was frozen.  Game is pretty much unplayable right now.  I hope you can help out with this.

Turn all shadows and reflections off.  Turn textures (before you log in to an arena) to 256 max.  Make sure AA is off completely.  You should be able to run bump mapping but detailed water may be too much.  Detailed terrain may be pushing it as well.  Make sure ground clutter is off.

Turn your distance slider most of the way to the performance (short distance) side.

You have a pretty slow processor and a very low end video card.  Don't expect much.

I'll wait to see what the developers have to say.  Like I said, everything worked flawlessly with the current release up until latest patch release  ...and considering you told me to do half of what is already NOT active according to my first post, I'll say kindly remove yourself from this thread and go badmouth someone elses system.

Im getting something very similar primarily in the tower or while in god view from the tower. Normally the computer holds at 59fps but the latest updates have brought something on that causes the frame rate to drop to 10-14 for a short period and then jumps back to normal.

Its possible that what ever is causing it also causes the micro-freezes and stutters I see in the air. I am using Alacrity to watch films lately and even during film playback the problem occurs where prior to the latest version everything was smooth. My current settings are identical to those prior to the latest version and updates.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

I don't think Tigger meant to put down your system. It might be time to start looking around for a new video card.
You could get a GTX 550 from Amazon for around 130 dollars.

Just make sure you find out how many Watts your power supply
puts out before you order a new video card.

OK... to reiterate my post:

Everything was running fine all weekend with the NEW stuff. Patch 0 and Patch 1 played fine.  Patch 2 has caused display issues.  As there was not an entire graphics package upgrade between patch 1 and patch 2, one of the tweaks they made in the patch has caused problems.  In reading, it appears I am not the only one who had a problem once patch 2 started.

If it was a video related issue on my end, then I would have had these issues when the latest graphics update was released last week, which I did not.  These issues did not start until patch 2 was released.

So thanks for your concerns.  If you want to buy me a new computer, please feel free.  Otherwise, I'll wait to see what HiTech and crew has to say.

wil3ur,
I didn't see it in the dxdiag but what OS are you running? I assume XP but I just wanted to be sure. And another question is that a 32 bit processor or a 64 bit processor?

If you want to talk to the HTC directly about this feel free to email them.  If you're going to post your problems on a public forum like this then expect the public to reply.  If you don't like what the public has to say then you have the option of not reading it.

Here is their email address, accessible from the ABOUT US link on their main webpage:  support@hitechcreations.com

I don't understand why this is so hard to understand.

If you do not enable any of the new features of this release, your frame rate should be the same as before, maybe even slightly better.

Skuzzy -- I'd appreciate some feedback.  As stated in my post, I'm not running anything that wasn't previously activated and have had a HUGE drop in frame rate since Patch 2 of the current release.  I've had to go from running Detailed Water/Terrain w/ bump map terrain and 512 Shadow to 128 Shadow, and everything deactivated and am STILL getting frame rate drops to 30FPS and below with freezes.  This was not present in Patch 0 and Patch 1 which ran flawlessly for me.

wil3ur: We are not sure what the issue is yet, right now we are trying to gather information on what systems have the issue.
We are also looking for someone with the issue to test with.

Chilli seemed to be having the same issue, the commonality I see between our systems is we're both on Dell's, and both running a 200 series Nvidia card.  I'm running the most up to date drivers for my card.

As an FYI, I've tried a complete uninstall, reinstall of the game since it'd been about a year and a half since I'd done it, that didn't correct any issues, but someone else had mentioned this corrected their issue so I gave it a shot.

wil3ur, try this once.

Go into the game online sitting in the tower with the slow FPS condition.
Alt tab out and then back in.

Does the fps change?

This is weirdness.  I reset my texture from 128 back to 512 before loading the game then loaded up the arena.  Turned back on detailed terrain, bump terrain and detailed water, and am sitting at 60FPS flawlessly.  Looking around is no longer causing the video memory List to fill up and spike and I'm not getting any frame freezes.   :noid

Alt-tabing in an out didn't seem to affect anything after it was running properly again.

[EDIT:] They are different maps from yesterday... would the terrain itself cause any issues?

I have noticed similar problems.  Stable performance for years at 60 fps.  after latest version, i enabled bump map on planes and others, and got and occasional reduction in framerates with the somewhat expected large drop over a burning large field with many players around, not a problem.  after last patch (2) frame rate drop 10-15 fps, disabled bump map for planes and brought in the  object draw distance, resulted in frame rates similar to Pre-patch release, tho the micro freezes are starting to become more frequent and annoying.

512 max textures, 1680x1020, no anti-aliasing, custom field of view 100. detailed terrain and water. display horizon.

It's exactly opposite for me: orig and patch 1 gave me very bad fps and stuttering in god view while patch 2 seems to have fixed it.  E8400@3G, 4850 w 512M, 4G RAM, XP SP3, everything max except 2048 shadows and 4xAA.  I do get some weirdness with VidMem readings, often it will be 512M VidMem and like 560M Used.  I thought Patch 2 fixed this as Used seem to peg at 512M but I still sometimes see it go above.
