Shadowing issue at high alt.
« on: February 01, 2012, 02:07:14 AM »
In a few recent flights above 20k I have noticed my planes cockpit has turned pitch black. I did a little more checking and it looks like an issue that gets worse the higher you fly.

This is the same for 4 different AC that I tested.

Less atmosphere to disperse the light, resulting in less ambient light?  :headscratch:

Not likely, the sun was on 12o'clock high. the sun is shining directly on most of the pitch black area.

I'm seeing the same thing

Here's a B-29 cockpit sitting on the ground at 12:00

I set a 100 mph updraft just to get to altitude faster and this is at 30,000 feet at 12:03

HTC Please show the blue planes some love!

My guess would be that Imadot nailed it.

Even with less atmo, the sun is still shining through a bubble canopy and onto many far from flat metal surfaces that all disperse the light and would provide ample ambient lighting around the cockpit. But thats not the point, if you have the sun shining directly onto an object it should not be near enough to pitch black.

Like, ya know, when that thing that makes you move, it has pistons and things, When your thingamajigy is providing power, you do not hear other peoples thingamajig when they are providing power.

I dont know about that. If you think of the atmosphere like you would a drop of water sitting on your kitchen table you might see how light acts when it interacts with our atmosphere.

Awww...was hoping it was a "feature" to keep people out of the statosphere so I don't have to climb for 45 minutes just to try to shoot them in the belly.  :bolt:

It doesnt really stop anything though. It did bring a point up about the way the sun acts as it gets near the horizon. It gets darker but it never does shift to red properly.

It does in custom arenas that I set up, because I set the sun color [day/dusk/night] accordingly.  :aok
