When the bats were dropped from an aircraft their wings broke when they hit the airstream and the now flightless creatures plummeted to earth.

Not true.

Because the bats would dispers into a much wider area and reduce calateral human casualties to the civilian population.

And to clarify, after the initial tests just dropping the bats for the planes as/is and encountering the boken wings problem new testing took place dropping them out of the aircraft in canisters and the testing of the new system, while it may have been successful, delayed developement to the extent that it was deemed not worth pursuing any further.

How did thye keep the bats out of the caves?  Where they trained or was it like a  speceal breed like the House Sparerow bird?

I'm just stating the military's rational here and the driving force behind the concept. It's not my own determination nor am I judging it. I mean clearly that concept went out the window when we dropped the A-bomb although that did prevent the deaths of untold numbers of allied forces that would have had to participate in an invasion of Japan.

Their wings didn't break.  Here's the segment on them:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcpdtcRLeVY
