I may have been mis-informed, but I have been told by members who have been in this game for a number of years, that the way to advance up the "rankings" of any class of rankings, was to add base captures to your score. If that is incorrect, I wish someone would point it out.I agree with you about the way objects are "scored" as for as damage points, and I think there is a difference in different objects destroyed points. All I am asking is this: If a fighter pilot has 245 kills in one month and no one else has that many, he should be the top rated fighter pilot for the war arena which he recieved all those kills. If a bomber pilot has more damage points than anyone else, he should be the top bomber pilot. If you have more GV Kills, then you should be the leader that class and etc. A base capture, in my view should not enhance your score as a pilot!
The problem with this is if you fly 200 sorties in 100 hours on line an hit 500 of the 1000 targets you go for (half), and I fly 50 sorties in 25 hours (a quarter of the flights you did) and hit 250 of the 250 targets (a quarter the number of your targets) who is the better bomber? My skill is better as I hit 100%, but seeing as you can spend more time on line going after more targets you can have a higher number of damage points. Should you be scored higher than me?
That's the hard part about "score" and why so many people call score a waste of time. The scoring is figured by taking your score for each category and placing you as compared to ALL the other players. So a guy that fly 100 hours will have a ton of damage points and so will be ahead of someone like me who only has one bomber trip so far this month. On the other hand I have a very high hit percentage because I don't have a lot of chances to miss (only one trip compared to his 100 trips) So I score much higher in that category. All the categories are added together which is how they "average" out the time factor.
Is it a good representation of skill? no way ! To many people thing they need to have the top score and so tweak their numbers by hitting town centers. The best think to use the score for is to check your progress. If you have the same number of flights as last month and you always play the game the same, and your score is better, good for you. You are progressing. If you go by the "ranks" it is hit or miss because some months you'll run higher because you are compared to everyone else, and who knows what THEY are doing this month.
Use the "numbers" of your scores to test your progress against yourself, and just throw the "ranks" out the window. You'll have a lot more fun! <S>
