FSC had an MLS game of the week every Saturday along with the ESPN2 MLS game of the week. And most (all?) teams also had their games on TV locally. MSG carried RBNY and NESN had the Revs for example.
MLS is still not a major sports league but they've done an excellent job surviving. Mainly by building soccer-specific stadiums and the single entity structure.
