Northrop P-61 Black Widow
« on: March 05, 2012, 07:06:39 PM »
A must be for the game because it was the U.S.'s first fighter specially designed for night fighting. After the teething proablems were worked out by mid-late 1942, it proved to be an excellent night fighter, and was deployed quite successfuly in the European and Pacific theaters. It's payload was also very substantial: 6,396 lbs of weaponry could be carried externaly as wel as being fitted with 4 .8 in. cannons in the chin, 4 .5 Mg's in the remote-controled dorsal turret. Top speed: 366 mph at 20,300 ft; crew:2-3; service ceiling: 38,300 ft; range: 2995 miles with out extra fuel tanks.

No, this game hasn't had a night time quite a few years.  The game has dawn and dusk times but not night.

It would be an interesting addition, for sure. I don't know how many times people have asked for that and the HE111. Be glad we have the B-29 now, that was weekly request. haha.

in some ways the b-25 h

Dude, you've been smoking the good stuff. The most heavily armed variant I can find was the XP-61E, and it had 4 .50s and 4 20mms. plus 6300 lbs of ords.

B-25H: 1 75mm, 8 nose mounted  .50 cals, plus 6 more in 4 different positions.

The P-61 at best only had 4 .50 cals to shoot at the enemy, and from only 1 positions, at that.

when i said better in some ways, i meant in speed, maneuverability, and now that you pointed that out, let me restate the stats: p-61c Maximum speed was 430 mph (690 km/h) at 30,000 ft (9,000 m), service ceiling was 41,000 ft (12,500 m), and an altitude of 30,000 ft (9,000 m) could be attained in 14.6 minutes. p-61c more info on it from another source: Armament: Four .50-cal. machine guns in upper turret and four 20mm cannons in belly; 6,400 lbs. of bombs
Engines: Two Pratt & Whitney R-2800s of 2,100 hp each
Maximum speed: 425 mph
Cruising speed: 275 mph
Range: 1,200 miles
Ceiling: 46,200 ft.
Span: 66 ft.
Length: 49 ft. 7 in.
Height: 14 ft. 8 in.
Weight: 35,855 lbs. loaded

We won't have night, been there did that. People logged off in droves and came back when "dawn" came around. Hitech has said night won't be back.
