 :furious  First no boot even in F-12, F-2 is all screwy, keeps locking up, unplugged and pushed start button, plugged back in restarted, now BIOS working, run Dell diagnostics, hard drive crashed, during process found the processor's heat sink & fan clogged with oily black lint. my wife treats me like a God and makes me a burnt offering weekly...been building up for 3 years. Went to best buy, got a 2 TB HD, reloading everything now...wow! What a pain. The tech at the shop said it's happening all over town...hard drives crashing faster than he's ever seen it...?  :bhead

Higher altitude, lower air density, small fans trying to force less air over heated components with less efficiency. Get more and larger fans and let'm do their job. Clean them out every 6 months - get filter media in front of the intake and clean that monthly.

My solution was a tower with 4x 120mm fans and crossflow. TD can chime in as his systems are well designed for ventilation.

But make no mistake, heat is yr worst enemy.

Grab a SSD (solid state drive). They have many advantages over the old standard drives (no moving parts, higher shock resistance, no vibration/noise, less power usage, speed, but capacity is somewhat limited). Yes they do cost a few more bucks, but well worth the extra $100-200 in my opinion. I just bought my first one about 2 months ago. I can't believe how fast they are. However, I haven't heard if they have a higher failure rate when compared to the standard HD.
