maps stay up at least 24 hours
« on: March 21, 2012, 03:14:21 PM »
Please coad things, so that the "win teh warz" crowd doesn't blow through maps before you can play on them.  Just logged in to see my favorite map - SMPizza, get reset moments after getting in the tower.

Just for curiosity, how would that work?  The front becomes static, bases become uncapturable once the war is won?  The front is allowed to be pushed further and further back until a country or two has only one or two bases?

I think he means the map would reset, but reload again for 24 hours instead of a bigger map loading.

I have mixed emotions about the maps; small maps are too small during prime time, but the big maps are too big during off peak hours.

It's not a terrible idea.  I've seen maps rolled in a couple hours start to finish.  Would mean a lot more war win perks flying around though, as the small maps would likely be rolled repeatedly over the course of that 24 hours.

It would suck for those who dislike certain maps though.

:pray  I like the idea of specific time for map "rotation".  After the number of fields have been taken the map would have to "reset" but could stay the same map until it's "scheduled" retirement.

* Very important:  The map rotation should occur at a time during the day that players would not log off and retire for the day.  Thus, I would recommend a time closer to noon CST.

I feel that it is just as important for players to know they are against a time constraint to conquer their objective.  Randomly booting players at a time when there has been a build up of game play enthusiasm could end up being worse than the effects of split arenas on numbers.  The same problem would occur if the numbers were low and game play was very slow (like it may be in early morning EST and Euro time zones), resulting in players logging off or worse, not bothering to log on after being conditioned to expect interruptions of the sort.

Although the original post was over the concern of maps being reset too soon, I have another concern over maps that run too long (in my opinon).  An example of a map that has worn out its welcome, could be a very large map that has a very difficult possibility in being "conquered".  There are very good maps that just linger on a bit too long.  Especially, if a particular map is not very conducive for ground battles or quick furball action in early morning play times (where I log a lot of time with my buds).

LOL Touche.

The map generally doesn't bother me one way or the other, they all have sky over them, but I guess my personal bias filtered in.  I don't mind the big maps, but for some reason the really really small one with the mountain in the middle irks me slightly and I am always happy when a horde starts rolling it.

If I owned the place, maps would be on a 3 day rotation, then switch.

This was one of the reasons I posted this wish...

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,329633.0.html

It would at least slow down the small maps being reset within a couple of hours.

Personally, I prefer the larger maps but once in a blue moon, a small map is nice. :aok

Just go to the DA!  That map has been the same for as long as I can remember and probably will not see a change in the near future.  There are those of us who like the challenge of taking bases.  We don't go into the dueling arena and try to take bases there.

I love these whines about players getting upset because someone upset their "furball".  If you don't like it then don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

Huh?  Where is there a whine about a furball?  Try reading the topic before posting.

I don't think you read this thread very well. He's not asking for a way to stop people from taking bases. He's asking that the map only reset - not change to the next in line - after a side fulfilled the "win the war" criteria. There are many maps that can be rolled in a couple of hours, so are only up a very short time and then are never seen again for weeks. You would still be able to capture all the bases you want and win the war as much as you want - but on the same map for a 24-hour period.
