Landing at the airfield
« on: March 30, 2012, 05:41:36 PM »
I would like to be able to land safely at a friendly base and not have to land on concrete.  As it is now, slide off to one side or the other, or the end of the RR and you get a ditch. I'd like to see a pilot be able to land "successfully" at a friendly field as long as he or she puts it down within close proximity to a RR or any concrete, say maybe 10ft or so?

I'd like that too accept if we add that people would stop using runways and that would be unrealistic.

Let jeeps tow friendly planes. About to ditch? Call a friend. How is this going to work? I don't know, but HTC can always surprise us.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

And then...

"BUT I WAS ONLY 11ft FROM RUNWAY! SO I GET A "DITCH" FOR JUST 1FT AWAY FROM 10ft? GIMME A FRIGGIN BREAK!"  :furious
But worse, in absence of a clear, visible boundary, players won't stop claiming "THAT WASNT EVEN 10FT!!!!" ...

Ok, ok. Just remember that when you're trying to land kills in a dead stick plane missing some serious parts and part of a wing, only to put it on the RR and then just slide barely off to the side before you stop!! Then you'll wish for a little leeway!!  :D

I would love this. I can't count how many times I've glided in dead-stick, my K4 trailing smoke, only to break a gear on landing and skid just BARELY off of the runway.

Or my favorite, when you break a prop taxing to the rearm pad in scenarios. You can't land your aircraft at any active field but your 'home' field (a bit odd, considering any base that opperates K4's will have a spare prop for one), and so you HAVE to rearm if you want to stay in the fight.

And when you smash up your prop, not only do you loose a life, but you end up giving the other side points, or required fighter kills.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

Adjust your tactics. The runway or tarmac is fine.

nutz is not one to care about name in lights or score.  I would like to know the percentage of grass / tarmac runways during the war.

Personally any where in the square confines of the base should do,  the saying 'any landing you can walk away from is a good one' (except not on concrete)  just doesn't sound right.
