Hey guys how does this sim compare with aces high from the screen shots it look like it could leave this game in the dust
Do you have to pay for it also just wondering ,and My computer would never be able be support
You pay for the aircraft program. I downloaded the modules online into a Windows 7 "My Documents" folder. All later update patches are usually free as are the mostly free user made downloadable missions and other stuff. Digital Combat Simulator has two aircraft currently: Ka-50 Black Shark (Russian helicopter) and the USA National Guard's A-10C Warthog twin engine jet. I think the DCS engine is now all 64-bit.
Their forum tends to be less mean spirited than Aces High's and very helpful people there:

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/They do not have a central server like we are spoiled with using Aces High, nor a similar radio chatline; you need Team Speak or similar. Either play offline or online using some people's PC servers or some people actually setup servers. A lot of the servers play full sim, real, no shortcuts, no startup cheats, just like a real aircraft. So, the need to know how to do a cold start ramp startup on the tarmac. The unlocked servers tend to have some ill mannered individuals that like to team kill and such negative activities as to Aces High, like vulching, not taking off of the runway, etc. Try that action to some of the locked servers will get you banned, and by word of mouth, the one server offending action will most likely get oneself banned from all the others, too. Most of the guys play strict discipline like adults should act.
Their other sim engine is more like Aces High, less technical, more players online, the Lock On series update Flaming Cliffs 2 and more aircraft to play with. I found the 2 disk set Lock On and Flaming Cliffs 2 at Best Buy a year ago for $20 US. All the aircraft come with it.
I just hope the USA stays friendly with Russia, I have a few friends there, now. The Russians I know here in the USA speak English usually well. If they type on the forums in their native Russian language, the online translators do a good enough job of figuring out what they are talking about.
