Just the base model? Turbo? something RS? Gt3? .... mighty Gt2? :pray, and what did you drive similar to compare it too? Then you'd have a statement worth reading   :ahand

Ive only driven one and it was a really tatty early 70s S. it was completely nuts, loved it :D

There is something very sterile about the new ones.  I cannot put my finger on it, but that visceral feeling you got when you slammed the throttle is no longer there.  I liked them when they were rough around the edges and would feel like they were barely hanging on when you were at 99% and you just knew at any second it was going to explode, but it never did.

The first gen Turbo Carrera was one mean mutha and it did not mind abusing you at all.  It was a hoot to drive.

I was most impressed how such a performance car was totally comfortable to drive in traffic. Cruising at 45mph in 6th gear with no problems at all. And then when you wanted to push it, turn the revs to 5000+ and you get that Porsche groal. I'm seriously thinking about buying one despite knowing it will be the dumbest buy I'll ever do (we have heavy snow winters).

Some of us who like you have heavy snow winters, have beaters we drive around for short jaunts.
Grocery Store etc.  I take care of it mechanically to ensure I don/t have to drive the R/T.

There surely is better bang for the bucks, and haters will be quick to throw that in your face. But who cares, get the thing and enjoy ... you live only once. :old:  Before you hit the trigger please take a at the new Boxer S. It's been rethought taking in consideration customer complaints, ride/performances/quality/fun factor have been significantly improved and it's a fraction of the cost of the 911.

My cousin just took delivery of a new Boxter S, trading in his 2010 Cayman. He loved the Cayman, but one drive in the top-down Boxter and he was spoiled forever...

On buyin a 'dream car' or 'toy' .. anyone can get a trundle car.

If you turn your car on, does it do the same for you?
It is such an appropriate statement
..yer gonna spend a major chunk of your life driving,
may as well drive something you enjoy, yanno?

Personally .. I have always tried to have a car that made me smile when I walked out to it,
because I knew what was coming.
Fun.
If it aint fun, why do it :)


440 powered project car, ran it for 18+years in brackets, drove it to work an back weather permitting,
even did a few cross country runs, and cruised a lot of places on west coast.
It was FUN.

I always wanted an 80s 911 turbo.  Now I would just get in trouble with it as the slow and delerious(fast and the furious) punks wouldnt know what it was, but would eat their rice for dinner :devil
