Buzz Bombs
« on: June 09, 2012, 12:16:06 AM »
Ok, I know there are probably lots of good reasons why not, but I think it would be an enlightening discussion, so I will ask anyway.

I think it would be interesting to include V-1's in the game.  Buzz bombs were an important and scary part of WWII, and I think they might make an interesting addition.

I brought this up a while back as a joke - allow people to spend 5,000 perks to fire off V-1s, only problem is the hit percentage is horribly low, imagine someone blowing 5k to aim dead center of a town and watching it slam into a mountain 3k away?

I would not mind these.  :aok Personally I would have them set up deep in the rear of each country & then on a timer like supply trucks & trains & they shoot off automatically aiming at the mega strat.

Get a He-111.
Get a late war model that could carry the V1.
Make it cost 50 perks, no drones.
Bail out of the He-111 and instantly lose 50 perks.
Transfer into the V1.
Fly to target.
Done.

50 perks for an "almost" unstoppable 2,000kg bomb, if you don't get jumped by fighters while in the He-111 or get caught by diving planes en route to target.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Well, you can have the V1 after I get my Re.2005 Saggitario.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

Well, this is a bit different.  The Ohka would be gamey and disrespectful.  The V1 is just useless, if modeled realistically, due to its inaccuracy.  You'd be lucky to hit the sector you were aiming for.  Take a look at how much of a sector is occupied by a town or base and imagine your odds of hitting it when you can't even be sure of hitting the sector.  Even the main city would rarely be hit.  Then, on top of that, you often have mountain ranges in the game whereas the V1 never had to deal with mountains and had no way of doing so.

Take up a P51 with 2,000lbs of bombs, go crash into a carrier - you have your Ohka - a V1 bomb has less then 3% chance of hitting within 1k of a Town let alone an airbase.

Sure, spend 5,000 perks to get your V-1, I will laugh when it plunges into the water 3k from the base.

I think these are a great idea... but not as directly player useable...

Just imagining here: say each side should get at least (2) V1 bases, deep(ish) in their territory. (One pointed at each enemy countries strat locations/HQ)

Once per hour, 4 hours, whatever, each base fires X number of V1s -> let's say, for arguments sake that each V1 base has 12 V1s.  Assuming none of them have been destroyed since the last launch (after they fire, new V1s would appear and be vulnerable to air attack), countries get a warning 30 minutes or whatever prior to launch.

When the V1s are fired, say 4/12 head for enemy HQ, 8/12 head for strats.  They can be intercepted on the way to their target or destroyed before launch.

Each V1 then has whatever % chance of hitting their intended target(s), but one would assume that at least a couple would always hit.

It would add something to the game, imho, and who WOULDN'T want to up a Meteor/Tempest/Etc to go after them?

Moreover, it'd be awesome to bomb the crud out of enemy V1 launch sites too  :x
