The minimum skill level required is higher than the average skill level. With so many players trying to get a good rank (with many more simply being that 'good'), it's not just a matter of choice.

3 things (maybe four) are needed, Snail:
-some skill, of course
-endless patience to run from every hot situation, or not to fall asleep on the loooong milkruns.
-thick skin on the face
-(and many "imafluffingoodwingman" squaddies in high alt ponies to cover your six in that case if you get stuck somewhere)

This is why I go for score most of the time because if you can combine skill while holding these ranks thats just epic. <--In my opinion atleast, This is only because so many non-skilled pilots gives the score its name.

You can see easily if this guy is making 20 something kills an hour per flight then he is no joke.

Other than that the score means nothing when put over a pilot of lesser skill.

Again this is Just my opinion nobody take offence!

This is just one point where many players err.
They think that going great lengths at avoiding 'death' results in a good fighter score. And then they wonder why despite their seemingly good K/D their rank doesn't get below 200  

I think some here would be surprised when I'd post a chart with the minimum k/d's required for certaink rank levels. K/D is the single most overrated stat

The top 1500 in fighter rank of tour 148 and their respective K/D. You see that there is a gradually increase in average K/D, but the individual ratings are quite irregular.


Here are the smallest and the highest K/D's appearing in different segments. Note how someone with an amazing K/D of 32 didn't even made it into the top 40:



Players that are flying very 'cautious' to get boost their K/D will often not have the result they may be hoping for. I'm a perfect example for that myself, I usually have an exceptional K/D, but my less than agressive style prevented me from ever getting fighter rank#1.



As a side note, all that is only valid for the late war arena. There are so few players and so little activity in EW in particular, that one or two sorties can get you to the top there.

Very Informing Indeed, I always figured at the start of the month hordes are constant and ppl consist of making mass kills only for the K/D to turn around and slap them.

Atleast  it proves my point most only go for High K/D in hopes that is what it takes to get #1.

running to an enemy and pick him while he's unaware is good tho
