HDMI and VGA

My kids bought me a new 23" screen for fathers day.
It's got an HDMI input and VGA also DVI....which is best to run AH with?

I agree with gyrene ...  dvi is just hdmi minus the sound with it basically.....

dvi still gives you the ability to 1080p/i.  res......

DVI and HDMI are the same thing, unless they are different.  On a television, they are electrically identical with the only difference being HDMI provides audio support and DVI does not.

On a computer monitor, the HDMI and DVI ports may not be eletrically identical as the DVI timing for a computer monitor is different than the timing for a television DVI port.  Some monitors will detect what is plugged into them and switch the signals to match on the DVI port.

I didn't know TV's even had DVI ports...

with DVI, HDMI (3 or 4 versions?) and DisplayPort things are getting confusing, and don't start with the "mini" standards

Yes my TV has VGA,DVI and HDMI.

I use HDMI as my sound card broke.

Klam, what kind of connection does your video card have?

If it is HDMI just run a HDMI cord from it to the monitor.  If you don't plan on using the computer speakers make sure you disable the HDMI sound device for your video card on your computer.

If it is DVI then run a DVI cord.

If it is VGA then run a VGA cord.

Don't worry about messing with adapters as they won't make any difference.  For example, an HDMI to DVI adapter does nothing for signal quality as it still sends the same information.  A VGA to DVI adapter only channels the analog signal to the DVI.  Again it would make no difference and could potentially allow for more interference (just one more thing to mess up).
