Keep in mind that it very likely was a proximity kill where your chute was the closest hostile to the F4U-4 when it hit the ground and no living hostile had damaged it.

That said, people have obtained legitimate kills with the pistol.

You can have lots of fun with a pistol in AH.  I once had six kills in a chute (as a man on the ground) in one sortie.

you should not be worrying about "landing" and concentrate on understanding the fundamentals of Air combat

I don't necessarily walk away from the landing, but if you consider 1 wing'ed nose dives straight down into a tree landing, then yes, I always land
